I'm a little surprised they are't pulling out the stops for Claude and having a pre-game ceremony of sorts before the Home Opener. |

Is that something typically done when just naming a captain? I don't really recall such instances |

I hope they don't. There's no need for any of that bullpoop. The media in town makes a big enough deal over the captaincy.
Certainly it's an honor, and important to an extent, but the way the media around Philly sometimes act it's on a level with Arthur pulling the sword out of the stone. |

So is there a sense from anyone in the media that Pronger will be around the team somewhat frequently in this role he's playing during camp, or is he expected to go back to St. Louis for the remainder of the season with his family? |

They did it when Richards was named captain. They brought out all of the Flyers captains (not including J. Smith and Forsberg) and Hatcher gave him a new jersey with the "C" on it when they had the preseason game vs. Carolina at The Spectrum.
I can't see them doing it before a regular season game though. |

Thanks as always Bill. Looking forward to Saturday.
Giroux will be an excellent captain for years to come.
I like the move of Voracek to 3rd line as it gives Coots a set up man. That's 3 lethal line combos that opponents will have be cognizant of.
Happy Tuesday everyone. |

They did for Richards, but that was part of a ceremony where they were honoring all the past Flyer captains. |

I think they flew a bunch of Captains of Flyers past in to name Richie Captain?
Maybe it's lame. I thought it was a pretty nice gesture. |

i agree...it would be dumb to do something like that...the media creates a big deal about being the captain... |

As jmatchett points out, it was as much to do with the Spectrum closing as honoring Richards. If the Spectrum hadn't been closing that year, it would have been a simple line dropped during a press scrum or maybe a small press conference at the Skate Zone |

a "no doubt" HOF'er. always thought about a player in terms of how hard he was to play against when considering eligibility and that was certainly what comes to mind with him.
obvious stuff, i know. |

Not crazy about Voracek on the 3rd line. I'd rather see him with Giroux, or Briere when he comes back and is ready to play. I think Voracek has an offensive upside, and I think playing with Giroux would be good for him. But I understand the defensive reasons also. Good to have balance. |

I must say, I am psyched to see him helping the D out etc. To me that must mean he's improving to the extent he can live a normal life and enjoy retirement! I'll miss watching him play, but I'm happy it appears he's better. |

As someone said yesterday, I think he'd be a great coach. You can't teach mean or size, but you CAN teach technique, positioning, energy conservation, and getting point shots through. |

as you know, these combos will change many times...esp when def responsibility becomes an issue. |

And you could also argue that all the hoopla made about him being the next clarke was one of the reasons hes no longer a flyer. |

I think he's no longer a Flyer because L.A. made a great offer for him in trade.
