Be glad when they get players back from injury! Things haven`t looked great but just a matter of time before they fire on all cylinders, or at least i hope so. Would hate to see a fantastic organization like the FLYERS fighting the OILERS for the 1st overall this coming draft. Got a good feeling they`ll take 2 points from the JETS today |

when players start coming back from injury it will be like making a trade...getting a Healthy Hartnell and HOPEFULLY a healthy Mez back should do a bit in settling things down |

Well said.
Losing Read also gives us a longer look at Mcginn in a top 9 role and possibly some more time for Harry Z |

I just hope, when Read comes back, he picks up where he left-off |

Being out 6 weeks will be rough but no reason he shouldn't be able to shake-off any rust fairly quickly. He can probably realistically start skating in about a month, it just sucks he can't really do a ton of physical activity before then. Lots of bed-rest for him.
Matty Read keeps himself in excellent physical shape though. No doubt in my mind he's already begun approaching this injury so that when he does come bakc, he picks up right where he left off. |

I'm not that concerned about the Flyers record and play so far. When you factor in their schedule with the injuries they have sustained, they are right about where they should be. As they move into March, they will have Hartnell and Mezaros back and their schedule eases up a lot which should be a huge benefit to guys like Bryz and Timonen.
That being said, I would still like to see them pick up a solid 4th line center who can kill penalties and win faceoffs, perhaps they could trade Fedotenko and a mid round pick to a team looking for depth on the wing to get this guy; and a better back-up goalie, who can be had for maybe a 3rd and Leighton or Boucher. Also one more solid defenseman wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't break the bank to get him.
I would be fine going into the playoffs with the following lines and D pairs:
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Briere-Schenn-Simmonds
Read-Couturier-Knuble
Talbot-new center-Rinaldo
spares: McGinn, Harry Z, Sestito and Wellwood
D
Timonen-Schenn
Coburn-Grossmann
Mezaros-Gus/Gervais/or new guy
spares: gus and/or Gervais, Foster, Lilja and Bourdon if he can get healthy
G
1. Bryz
2. New Backup
3. Leighton or Boucher

Thinking this will be a good game. The Flyers are a young team in a shortened season, and have an arduous start to the season, especially. They're going to go through ups and downs, and even more importantly, growing pains. Here's hoping the veteran presence steps up, guys like Talbot and Briere need to break out ASAP.
I believe in this core and team. |

There's been a lot made of the Bruins scouting the Flyers and conversations between Holmgren and Peter Chiarelli.
I'd be good with what you propose. I'm not a fan of dealing away the kids, and while I think Fedotenko has been adequate overall, I have no need to see him stay in place, because there's little chance that they bring him back |

I think your point of a faceoff guy is a real need. It would be nice to have a 2nd faceoff option that can also kill penalties, other then Giroux. But otherwise I like what Fedetenko has brought to this team.

It would depend on who the player is. But a player who is good on faceoffs is definitely attractive.

The trouble with that is, when Leighton was signed, it was planned for an 82 game season, not a 48 game cluster(frank) where the Flyers have already played 6 sets of back to backs.
Look at Boston. They have played 14 games overall. That's just two more than the Flyers back to back games alone. Boston has played one back-to-back so far (January 28&29) and have had 2 or more days off between games 6 times, including three 3 day breaks in February alone.
Had the Flyers had Boston's schedule, Bryzgalov probably would have played every single game without a break. |

Exactly. Have to take all the factors into consideration. Rather then just using one meaningless comment from Bryzgalov. And also the FLyers slow start and being behind n the points and out of a playoff spot has contributed to Laviolette playing Bryzgalov more. But regardless, it's probably the difference of a couple of games.

so if lavy had more trust in his backup he wouldn't have played more when it's obvious that bryz has been fatigued? |

There's a lot of factors. There's games where it seemed a good idea to start the back-up and he didn't for whatever reason.
But had they not had such a compressed schedule to start the season, fatigue is not an issue, and it's hard to fault the Flyers for not knowing that in July |
