Quick question, if o reilly went to calgary and then went on waivers.....how is it decided which team could claim him first? I assume everyone would want him so how does the nhl decide who gets first crack?

Yup lowest point total for a team that put a claim in. If read a few conflicting reports on this, but I am usnure if the Avs could have even put a claim on him regardless.

Some kind of really weird karma going on there with O'Reilly tipping in the game tying goal...
I'd like to just forget this game and move on but lack of effort and taking stupid penalties seems to be the prevailing storyline for this Avs team.
As a coach, if I couldn't get any better effort out of my guys than that against a team like Columbus (not dissing, just telling it like it is), I'd seriously have to think about stepping down. That was just flat out embarrassing...

The positives I will take out of this game.

Saccos time is inching closer to being done.
EJ and Wilson are one game closer to returning.
Barrie belongs to stay up
5 d-men on one way contracts, 1 or 2 will be out the door sooner rather than later.

why wait, trade Stastny this season.

Head into next season knowing Duchene and O'Reilly are 1-2 at centre.

Package Stastny and O'Byrne (pending UFA) to anyone in the East looking for a centreman. Draft picks are good enough for Stastny and opening up a sppot on D for the youngsters (Siemens)...since O'Reilly's cap hit is $5million the AVS dont need to take salary in return to reach the CAP Floor.

I dont think they should wait till next year to trade Stastny...they'll have this same dilemma next season with not enough ice time to share between the 3 centremen...do it now, please ! !

I just thought we could get more value for Stastny at the draft with teams looking to add a 1-2 center to their team instead. But I do agree, the sooner the better, start building this teams identity now.

Buffalo, Jets, Panthers, Islanders are all teams that could use an upgrade at their centre position

I dont know if the AVS will ever know when is the right time to "GET THE MOST VALUE" for Stastny...gamble all they want, but they've had Stastny on their roster for several years now and he's never been able to carry this team. Might as well give a younger fellow the chance.

So from what I understand of the new CBA, unless im "FEASTERING IT", the AVS must offer O'Reilly 6.5 million in the first year of his next contract in order to hold his rights. But from their, they can go down 35% each season (new variance rule), so thats 6.5million minus 2.275 million, and they could do that every year after wards for the length of the contract. NOt sure O'reilly will like it, but if he doesnt earn the 6.5 million this season and next, you bet thats the way his next contract should be laid out

I am unsure how it works, but I thought if the Avs and O'Reilly can agree to a long term contract before he has to be qualified then they are fine. So they can get a cap hit of 4.5 but yes they would have to pony up the dough that one year as well. Sad that he now will make 13m in 2 seasons automatically now.

I am intrigued about hamrlik being on waivers. He is an upgrade over O'Bryne and Zanon. I wouldnt be upset if we claim him and try and trade away those bums

Pass. We are not intesreted in Bozak, when chances are we can just sign him this summer instead.

I would be more intesreted in getting Liles back and a guy like Kulemin

I still maintain that with a better coach and a real offensive system Stastny would be fine. He, as well as all the players on the roster have suffered in this dump and chase grind system that we don't have the personnel for.
