No worries about the weekend, Colin. Hope all is good.

Last nights game was just what I would hope from the rest of this season, a strong effort but in the end, no points for CGY. 6 gms to go and we remain in the 3 slot for drafting; not a bad spot to be in and a better than outside shot at winning the lottery.

The # that stands out to me re: Monahan is the 15 PP goals in 31 total goals. That is a very high % on special teams. I would look at him with our 2nd pick or if we were able to aquire a 2nd pick in the top 10 but certainly not with a top 3 or 4 pick.

If the Flames are unable to draft one of Jones, Mackinnon, Drouin or Barloc then that's when they should go after Monahan. Monahan could be a Kesler or Mike Richards typ of player, but the Flames need top tier talent.

The delay getting him playing over here is what turns him off. Doesn't he have military service to complete?

Who cares. We are not challenging for a cup in the next 2-3 yrs so why rush him. In 2-3 yrs we could have Backlund and Sven established as legit top 6, confident players. Then we potentially add Barkov, Gaudreau and Jankowski (assumiong they all keep progressing) and who knows else who we pick up between now and then. Our D core will be structured around TJ, Wotherspoon and possibly Sieloff and another pick from this draft. Not to name the potential in guys like Ramage, Culkin & Kulak. Guys like Gio and Wideman could still add the vet leadership and support to that group.

NO RUSHING ANY PROSPECT. iF they are ready, fine. But not until they ARE ready. Think more DET and less EDM.

Definitely no need to rush, I prefer the unrushed route. But no need to pick players with additional development delays in place.

I think granlund dropped off our prospects charts due to this.

Elias Lindholme I think would be taken over Monahan... Lindholme is a special player.. I'm surprised you didn't make one for him Colin, good job none the less.

After the top 4 or 5, everyone else is all over the place. I've seen Monahan as low as 12. My money is still on MacKinnon or Barkov. I would still love to see CGY really be aggresive and go for a quick rebuild throught the draft and aquire, somehow, another top 5-7 pick. I think we still have some assets that, grouped together, could bring in that pick. Cammi, GlenX, Tang, some decent B prospects (some currently being show cased), Cap space, salary retention......

I think CAR, TBL, NSH and possibly PHI could be had. I would also like to see us somehow poach EDM 1st pick via another team/3 way deal. The team wants to see an aggressive team, let's see this management team lead the way.

Wow, what a time for Hanowski! Steps right out of the frozen four into his first NHL game against the team he grew up watching and scores his first NHL goal against that very team! Almost had 2! Good story! Great acquistion for the Flames!

I don't see anyone after first 4 playing in nhl next year, Drouin and Jones are not a lock to play next year in nhl
only way to quick rebuild is rfa and ufa (good luck with feaster)

He needs to put on a Jofa helmet or something to match that flow.

I'll reserve judgement. I was very happy for him but I'm not ready to call him a "great acquisition" just yet.

That said, our prospects overall are making strong cases that they belong on the big club. Reinhart, Sven have both been good. Horak has really impressed; he's not flashy or brilliant, just steady. I think he could be a really good 3rd line C if he keeps improving on his face-offs. More than any of the other young guys we've seen, he is demeanor on the ice just seems quietly confident and poised.

Beat it and worry about your own team. I'm sure the old boys club in Edmonton will only need another 3 years to get the job done. Wait a second though...Lowe knows how to win...

By quick rebuild I mean a quick restocking of the prospect cupboards. Not necessarily on the big club and making an impact. By quick I also mean that we are fighting for the PO with these kids in 2-3 years, not 3-4 yrs (or more) like the Oilers.

If we were to draft 2 very high end guys, that, theoretically shortens the rebuild by a year. 2 top 7 guys this year could equal 2 of EDM 1st overalls of previous years.

Little change of topic but could help out at the draft with getting pics. It seems alot of people are against holding salary back in a trade or trading to dump salary. I think calgary is in a great position to do this. Are there deals out there that you guys think would benefit the flames from doing this?

Someone on here had a great suggestion which, to me, makes complete sense. The suggestion was trading out PIT pick and Butler (low salary) for PHI 1st and Timmonen (high salary). The added benefit to us would be that Timmonen is a FA at the end of next season so picking up an extra 1st at the deadline would seem quite plausible.

We are still loaded with wingers for next year so Cammi would be the 1st one I w ould look at moving but to get anything reasonable back I'm sure we would have to retain or take back salary. I think GlenX, Gio, Wideman and Hudler are likely the best vets mentoring the kids, so Cammi and/or Tangs would be the best to look at moving, IMO.

Could be possible but I have a hard time believing Philly would do that. Cammy and keeping some salary might work. I don't think anyone would touch Tangs.
