Great day of sports today. Hockey playoffs, Phils, NBA playoffs.
If they sign Starkbaum, where are they at with number of contracts? |

Let's sign him and bring back Nodl. Trade for Vanek to play with Raffl. Go Team Austria. |

So starkbaum would fill in the ahl gap until stolarz gets there...unless his development is fasther than anticipated. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Starkbaum - bmeltzer
Bill,
If the flyers are looking for goalie depth in the system, any chance they go after mathias niederberger if they miss out on Starkbaum?
Also, since they've recently signed some over agers, do you see then giving Ryan O'Connor a shot? He's a bit smaller for a defenseman, but he moves the puck well and has a good shot. |

The Flyers will need a backup goalie at the very latest 2014-2015, as I don't think Bryz will survive two summers. Starkbaum could be that guy. |

Assuming the flyers are buying out bryz, either this summer or next, it doesn't leave us with many viable options for a backup tender. I think the only guy they have that could be the backup is cal Heeter. Nothing wrong with giving the organization more options to work with. |

Me hopes their plan is to shift bryz out over the next year, slowly shift Mason into the starter spot, and adapt Starkbaum into the backup spot. Heeter and Stolarz still need quite a few years to develop, and I would be very surprised if we ever see both of them get an NHL spot. |

Starkbaum is already 27 years old. If he came over here, he'd spend a short time -- max of one season, probably -- in the AHL and either be NHL-ready or go back to Europe.

Meh, as of right now we have a head coach. And as for the Giroux thing, while it could, in the end shake out for us, I probably wouldn't. Giroux is our leader, our proven elite forward. He's the face of our team, and our leading scorer 2 years straight. And he's young, too. I could argue that he is still 1 or 2 years from his prime. Trading him for the 1st overall in order to get Mackinnon would only set us back a few years. If Mackinnon ends up being as good as Crosby (probably won't but that's the hype) then it's easy to say I'd rather have Crosby than Giroux, but we'd still get elite production out of either of them. On the high end, if Mackinnon absolutely meets his potential and surpasses it, then he probably would be getting 10, maybe 15 more points than Giroux on a yearly basis. If he doesn't, then we have a player equal to, or worse than Giroux. So if it does take the high road, could you really say it's worth it to set our team back 5 years just to get that extra 10 or 15 points of production out of our leading scorer? |

Absolutely not. And, yes, Colorado wouldn't hesitate for a second to accept that.

Their are basically 3 players\assets I trade Giroux straight up for..
Stamkos, Malkin and Crosby.
Since Giroux is not enough to get one of those 3 straight up then it's a moot point.
Whatever you get with the 1 you hurt your overall performance more by moving Giroux for just a pick. |
