I definitely bring back Gagne, but at around half of what he's making now, say $2 million. Basically Gagne takes Feds' money.

He's a solid 2 way forward who is going to kick in some goals. Pair him up with Couts and you have the start of a solid defensive line with some scoring potential. The only real issue is him staying healthy for a full season, but that's true of every player.

I'm pretty confident of your answer, but what did you think of that Cooke hit last night, Bill? And then the way the Marchand hit was handled?

For me, the 2 hits weren't the same at all, but no way Cooke should have been kicked out of the game...and that really hurts to admit.

Bill, Kool list.

What about Coaching... Murray was head coach and now back in the organization. Any others? Several have been players then brought back into the fold after retiring.

Murray had three stints in the organization as a player (two that included NHL time), a head coaching stint, an NHL assistant coaching stint, an AHL head coaching stint and a pro scouting stint immediately after he was let go as head coach after the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals.

Lots of players have been brought back as scouts or coaches after their active careers as Flyers players: Barry Ashbee (assistant coach), Terry Crisp (assistant coach), Bernie Parent (goaltending coach), Bob Clarke (two GM stints, other front office roles), Paul Holmgren (assistant coach, head coach, assistant GM, GM), Joe Watson (worked as a special assignment scout and training camp assistant coach in the first few years after retirement), Bill Barber (NHL and AHL coach, scout), Simon Nolet (scout), Al Hill (chief pro scout), Ilkka Sinisalo (scout), Dave Brown (scout), Craig Berube (assistant coach), Mike Stothers (NHL/AHL assistant coach), Kevin McCarthy (assistant coach), Derian Hatcher (player develomment coach), Eric Desjardins (player development coach), Ian Laperriere (Director o Player Development), etc etc etc.

I'd like that $2 - 2.25 range for Gagne.

Saw the tsn interview Duthie did with Hextall before the game yesterday. If Homer ever gets replaced, he is my first call.

Who would be your first choice for the coaching position, Bill?

So we're going to ignore that week that Keith Acton spent in Winnipeg, Bill?

I'd like to see Gagne return, but I'd go no higher than $2mm or so. He can be a valuable role player for the Flyers, still has good wheels and smarts and if he can pot 10-15 goals, he'd be a solid piece at that price.

Would rather move on from gagne. Would like an upgrade in size/speed. If it takes more money so be it. Im liking stalbergs game

Ref eks blog. Wonder what it would take to get to 3 or 4. Something like b schenn, read, our 1st? That's a heck of a lot

Stalberg will likely cost more than Gagne. Definitely would have interest, though. He's played well for the Blackhawks.

I'd prefer less money, maybe 2 years at $4.25mm or $4.5mm.

Ek has a blog up, about a rumor that the Flyers are very keen to move up and land Nichushkin in the draft, along with several other teams.

Stalberg has been an adequate player for years...he's had a great year and now he's gonna get some good cash for it.

I'd take him for a reasonable price, but this years market will have him set as a top 5 UFA...which will result in an over payment.

Hold off on Gagne until most of FA plays out. This team needs some big changes and with the cap coming down we shouldn't be committing money to 3rd liners prior to solving larger issues.

Once things play out tho, sure I would bring him back. Couldn't go over 2.25 for him though.

Yeah, I'd definitely try to string it out. He's not a make or break guy for the Flyers, or anybody, at this juncture of his career.

With read, talbot, Rinaldo as regulars I think they need to go up in size

He had a good season last year(22 goals) and repeated it this year. He's not a top line guy, but the lack of big names (who are under 30) will likely see him get too much money for the Flyers situation

I think we would have to target the 4th spot with Nashville. Dont want to help either Florida team at all. Nashville would probably look for BSchenn, the 1st and a 3rd or two. At that cost I'm not so sure I wouldn't just cough up and deal for Weber.

Trading up to take a forward puts us in a very very tough position to trade for the Dman we actually need. I dont think trading up to take Nischuskin is something I would do. The thought process tho is probably to have Giroux and Nischuskin as an answer to Crosby and Malkin.

He covers a lot of ice quickly. Like his work along the walls. Not great vision or finishing touch. If he lights it up from here on out he will collect but I'd like him

Zubrus would be a good addition, if he was around Gagne's cap hit last season. Not sure they can fit that without other moves.

So we have to resign Giroux, B Schenn, Couts, and Read next offseason. Do you just not want to do that or what?
