I had to look up at the top to see if Dee really wrote that, as you know, she didn't. I thought she actually wrote a blog about hockey. |

As soon as I realized there was some actual information in it I knew it wasn't Dee. |

We need Darnell Nurse! With all the superstars in our conference we need this guy to help harmonic and Reinhardt. |

You mentioned some interesting players I haven't heard about. As you said, if he's still available, Pulock may be the pick. Domi and Horvat interest me also. I wish the Isles had a 2nd round pick because I'd love them to pick up Santini, as he's a quiet, steady defenseman, and from NY.
Great blog! You should write about the Isles more often. Thanks!

Alexander Wennberg : He’s flown a bit under the radar despite having an amazing season both internationally and in the Allsvenskan. The 6’1 centre/LW/RW (versatile) has excellent offensive instincts and top-end speed. His speed to me is Grabner like with excellent start and stop movements. That kind of speed has really helped him out on the bigger ice-surface in Sweden. His hockey sense is described as being near elite and this plus his speed have made him one of the top penalty killers in the draft and he’s a master of creating turnovers. He’s a bit of a one shot scorer and likes to shoot off the rush or cut inside for a wrister and I haven’t seen or heard much if anything about a slapshot. Overall he has amazing instincts in both zones and has a high compete level. I thought he looked very good for Sweden in the WJC’s even though he played in the bottom-6 and was used primarily in a defensive role. Any 18 year old player that is trusted to play on the PK against men is alright by me and his 32 points in 46 games is very impressive. I won’t even go into his dominating performance in last year’s U18’s…this kid is so underrated. His versatility and ability to play all three forward positions to me is a big plus as that essentially means he can slot anywhere you want to plug him in, and while any team that drafts him likely won’t see him for two years as he develops in Sweden, he plays a very mature and pro-ready game already.
Can we use another Grabner on the team? |

The Grabner mention was purely for his lightning fast speed and how fast Wennberg is, I guess I could have said Gaborik or Hagelin. Wennberg has a lot more to his game than Grabner ever did at the same age. |

I wonder if a team picks morrissey in the top 10. Sounds like size might be the only drawback. Last year I was surprised pouliot went 8. How do they compare. |

Morrissey is better defensively and is much more physical. Pouliot is the better skater, but it isn't too big of a difference. I'd also say Pouliot is the better passer, weaker shooter.
Pouliot at 8 was a bit of a left field move, especially because the common assumption is that the Pens wanted to have him and Morrow who were friends and played at times together as a duo...then they traded Morrow so...? You could be right about him going in and around the top-10.

Adam French: Draft Spotlight : Islanders - AdamFrench
Josh Morrissey is a stud & could be one of the best d-men taken in this draft down the road.
We have the pleasure of watching him every night in Prince Albert & your bang on Adam, he's very gifted offensively, his first outlet pass is quick & accurate, he's very smart & reliable in his own end(something you don't always see in an offensive d-man) but what is very unusual with this type of player is he's nasty at times, doesn't back down from anyone & if you want to stand in front of his net, he'll do whatever he has too in order for you to feel uncomfortable.
That package is very hard to find & whoever drafts Morrissey is getting a high ceiling dman. If he slips into the 20-25 range, it's an absolute steal. This guy, mark my words, is going to be one of the best defensemen in this draft & you'll see in about 5yrs time. |
