Things aren't nearly so bleak as some would have us think. I like it. |

Lots of potential space cleared, but... Giroux, Schenn, Coots, Read are all coming due. If we trade Read and sign Bernier that is probably a 2.5 MM addition this year. Schenn and Coots will probably be in the mid 3's on their next deal. And G is goon to double his current deal. As quickly as the space clears, it gets eaten up. - section32
possibly one of Schenn or Couts being flipped for another piece is a possibility, but again that piece may require more $$$? |

I'm not Bill but I believe we have a good shot. LA has $7 MM to sign 8 people. Read is only $900k this year. If they want Coots (who is still a modest $1.3 MM hit) I would pass. And if we have to throw in a 2nd rounder then I would still do it. And that doesn't hurt LA's cap situation. All else fails...offer sheet him (which I would prefer over losing Read thus season). But someone else may get him first if we wait. Bernier just moved agent to the same one G, Briere, and a few other Flyers use. It may be Bernier trying to control his own destiny to a degree. |

I concur. Doom and gloom are for the attention- and revenue-via-clicks-seeking sensationalist media and their most gullible readers/listeners. |

I agree
Don't know why Toronto would be in this, unless only to drive the price up, but what happens with Mason if this does happen?
I don't see him in a backup role, better suited for a Nabokov type (older veteran)
The Ryan talk is intriguing but I think Coburn AND the first pick is too much (rumored), he's a top 4 defenseman. |

Unless Coots and Schenn improve dramatically this coming season, I dont see them getting that kind of money. I see them both coming in at around 2-2.5. |

It's not too much... It's just too much for us. I would be happy if it were Mez and a 1st, but Anaheim wouldn't. And we really shouldn't be using assets on wants instead of needs. |

Schenns hit is already 3 mm. Coots had an off year, but if he can duplicate his rookie year he will get paid. |

Mez has minimal trade value, I really think Ryan will be moved this time, he expects the same $$$ as Getzlaf & Perry & that's not going to happen.
He may wind up being a need if 1 or 2 of our younger forwards is flipped for other pieces.
The Devils have so many roster spots to fill, I don't see what they could offer for Bernier. |

Yes, Schenns CAP HIT is over 3, but his actual salary is quite lower. The Flyers will give him an increase on his actual salary but it will not be above his current cap hit, which he never came close to making so far in his career.

I personally don't think that Couturier and Schenn will be in the mid 3's. I think it's possible that Schenn's Cap his will be actually smaller then it is now. And Couturier's will be slightly higher then it is now. |

As well, he rarely over pays for anything, but their offense is a mess, he has other problems. Only 2 top 6 forwards |

Yes larger base salary for both, without all the performance bonuses.

Bob Ryab is our savior. And Mesz can be counted on as a top 4 D man when we trade Coburn. |

Salary and Cap hit are two different things for players on Entry Level deals. Brayden Schenn was paid $855,000 last Season. His base salary this upcoming Season is $810,000. His bonuses are basically unattainable. If he get's a bridge deal for 2.5M, that is basically tripling his salary

I'm okay with the Flyers dealing Read for Bernier straight up, but any other assets to the Kings I really think is over payment. The longer the bidding process continues for Bernier, the more likely the price comes down in my opinion. There is just no way Lombardi can let this process get into the free agency period, I just don't believe he is that dumb. |
