Morning Bill...Is Ron Hainsey still out there? He was a big name at one time. Has his game slipped and is he a fit for the Flyers? |

Good morning Bill
Whats your best guess on which dman gets moved for cap space?
and
Do think there is any chance the Flyers can make a deal to land Pietrangelo? - BiggE
Still think Meszaros is the one who goes. Pietrangelo is a pipedream at this point -- notice that McKenzie, Dreger and LeBrun haven't had a thing about St. Louis considering trade options. For that matter, Ek hasn't had it yet either. It's come from someone no one had even heard of this time a week ago. |

Still out there; wants big bucks. Flyers don't have the cap space and he'd be iffy as upgrade at UFA prices. |

I think St. Louis is happy to have Pietrangelo rumors floating out there. But, anybody calling will probably get the classic bait and switch response. Are you interested in J.Bo.
I have long thought J.Bo was a good Flyer fit. Signing Pietrangelo is a lot easier for the Blues if they move J.Bo.

imo, homer knows that to be a solid cup contender, the team needs a norris trophy candidate level dman and he'll try like heck to land one. failing that, he has upgraded the team to a level that should land them in the plyoffs and allow for him to pounce if an opp for an upgrade presents itself.

I thought that was the plan and part of the reason for buying out Bryzgalov and Briere. But with the new signings of Emery, Streit and LaCavelier, where does he get the cap space if a #1 D becomes available. |

Does anyone think Emery will hold up under the pressure of playing in Philadelphia?

we knew he'd bring somebody to pair w/ mason, so signing emery appears to be a good move from both an economic and hockey stndpnt. Bill pretty much explained the rationale for the other signings.
the flyers have an excess of attractive d men and forwards that could be moved if the right plyr is out there to be had. |

That's what I'm wondering and with all these nmc's on the roster it begs the question if the price will be palatable. |

If you hold him to 25 starts yes. |

Pietrangelo would be wonderful to obtain but I agree, it would be a pipedream. After signing Roy, the Blues got a scoring line C and will look to use their cap and team budget to resign Pietrangelo and Stewart. If anything, I would think they would listen to JBo offers like someone mentioned before.

I always thought to acquire a very good to great player usually involves moving other players, who presumably have a decent salary also. So I think it is a bit overblown to suggest the Flyers have no financial flexibility to acquire blueline help. They have assets they can trade with cap hits north of $4 million.
In the end, I think acquire a young d-man who hasn't reached his potential with the hope of him growing into a top pairing d-man. A trade similar to the JVR-Schenn deal. |
|

Bill,
Do you think the Flyers would think about offering sheeting Pietrangelo? I'm not suggesting they should or shouldn't. Just that they surprised a lot of people by doing it with Weber last summer. I know if they did, they would need to move a lot of salary and defensive personnel.

Coburn and read for Nathan Beaulieu and a pick would be something I would look at |

They have meszaros streit and voracek as the only players with that salary and absent a ntc/NMC |

We should sign Blum - griouxmvp2012
I'm really surprised he hasn't been signed with someone yet. I have seen him play several games and looked pretty decent. Maybe I'm missing something by not watching him play enough. I don't know where he would fit personnel wise on the team with such a logjam at defense as of now but I like him.

Is there a requirement of seasons played or age to qualify for a NMC OR NTC? |
