Habs faced this same scenario last season with PK Subban who if not mistaken has Meehan as an agent well? Guess the guess is whether StL wants to lock up Pietrangelo long term or a stop gap bridge contract like what Subban received.
If STL wants a long term deal then he'll sign for the 5-8 years at a rate of $5.0-$6.0 is my guess. If you want the bridge contract then look for it to be roughly PK money. $3.5-$4.0 a year for 2-3 years. |

Cue all the Flyers fans....
Let's package all of our guys that we don't mind dumping for another teams superstar. |
|
|
|
As a Flyer fan, I'd like to see Homie give him an offer sheet at 8 years 60 million (7.5 AAV) so he can't refuse that deal, and then as compensation give up Coburn, Brayden Schenn, Matt Read (or Hartnell to dump cap then resign Read), and a 1st rounder. I'd like to hear Blues fans opinions of that deal. |

See that first name? Brayden Schenn? In case you hadn't noticed from visiting Bill's blog, most of us mind "dumping" him. We mind very much indeed.
Alex Pietrangelo is one of the few players in the NHL who the Flyers need to the point where it's worth moving a guy like Schenn (not to mention the several other quite good assets. That package works out roughly to an offer of Sutter, Bennett, Orpik, Jarry, and your first next year from you guys.) |

Flyers are currently $1.1 millon over the cap. I beleive they are allowed to go up to 10% over meaning a max of $6.4 million. By my calculation this means that the best they can offer is a $5.5 per year RFA contract. If Philly wants to do that then I am sure STL will be happy to sign the contract now. |

Wonder if the blues would match a offer sheet of 8 years 60 million? |
|
|
|
Piets is very young yet probably one of the most complete defensemen in the game. Blues have to lock him up long term. 8 years around 7 mil per year is what he can make easy from any team.
If the blues do trade him, they need to make a similar trade to the Johnson trade a couple years ago. Get a solid top 4 defenseman, top 6 scoring forward, and in this case a 1st rounder. Not really sure what team could be a good trading partner |

Would love for the oilers to do that, but I'm sure the blues would probably do the same in return when rnh or yakupov were due for a payday. |

Ok, well with Backes, Berglund, Roy, and sobotka there is no need for anymore centers. Also why would the blues need a goalie when they have halak, Allen, and Elliot. |

Nice blog
Question: Would you consider Brayden Schenn, Matt Read, Braydon Coburn, Robert Hagg and the Flyers 1st in 2014 a fair offer for AP? - BiggE
wow ...thats quite the haul.....honestly , I think Couturier would have to be involved....but the rest of the pieces would be pretty close....But maybe remove Hagg and Schenn and add Couturier....
so
Couturier, Coborn, Read and 2014 1rst rnd.
crazy, but Im sure STL would do everythng they can to sign this kid...if not they are going to get an awfully good return, |

I did read it... What has Schenn done to prove he's worthy of returning a cornerstone D? Coburn was pretty lousy last year. Read is an UFA next year, Schenn is an RFA next year. Hagg and a first may never play in the NHL. That's a laughable package for a young superstar. |

Doughty is the comparable. Meehan also same agent. Rumor has it Petro won't sign anything without a 7 in front of it. Armstrong and most Blues fans attest he isn't a 7m per player YET. Yet Meehan clearly negotiating into the future upside of Blue chip dman at 23 and already in Norris talk when he was 21. Same was said for Doughty a couple of years ago.
Doubt there any teams with the cap space to realistically offer sheet him for something the Blues wouldn't match, which would have to be overpayment of 8.4m per, just under the 4 1st round picks in compensation. Unless it was back weighted to take into consideration the rising Salary Cap in next few years.
If Armstrong can sign him for somewhere between 6.6-6.9 long term it would be a victory.
Also if you are a competing team offering up trades, it will take an elite forward + top 4 dman to do the deal. As one of the deeper teams in the league, the Blues have no room for a grab bag of your castaways. They are also in "win now" mode, so you can keep your picks. |

Hahaha so many untouchables. But you'd think we'd have to give up an untouchable to get one |

That'd be interesting. Only thing is that the blues would be way too close to the cap (or over) with their salaries and resigning stewart |

If that's the case, and they have no issue with it, why hasn't it been offered?
I know offer sheets are frowned upon (I don't know why, as they've been used since the 1980's), but it's very simple. If you don't want a player to be offer sheeted, pay him what he deserves. Same with Weber last year; I blame Nashville for nickle and diming their franchise defenseman until their hand was forced. If AP gets offer sheeted (for the Flyers, they'd have to trade one of Meszaros/Coburn), St. Louis only have themselves to blame. |

Pietrangelo isn't going anywhere. He'll sign for 8 years @ 6 mill aav. Any offer sheets will be matched, Armstrong has already stated this. Teams like Philly can't give players front loaded contracts anymore with the new CBA. I'm not worried stop trying to create drama where there is none Jeff. |

Flyers thinking a player deserves something does not equal a player deserving that salary.
And who said there would be no issue with it? He would be getting overpaid, but still better to keep him slightly overpaid. |

I don't think Jeff is creating the drama, I think Blues fans freaking out at various forums are and he's just commenting on it. |

Yes.
Also, you can't OS a player for 8 years, you can only sign him for 7. Blues are the only team that can contract Petro for 8 years. |
