It's definitely an interesting subject.
However, outside North America, athletes perform for their country quite regularly. There is a risk of injury no matter what.
I would probably say, remove pros from the Olympics and have the World Championships take place during the summer. Although honestly, I don't even care about national play so I wouldn't mind if NHL players just stuck to team based competition completely. |

Why not follow them completely and have the World Championships every 4 years and during the summer. Makes winning so much more meaningful. |

unless the NHL signs a deal with ESPN for its next TV contract then you need the olympics to grow the game. No offense to NBCSN but they're not in everybody homes. So you can't grow the game that way. |

Boom. Same with soccer. It's a winter sport but it's part of the Summer games and the World Cup is during the summer. The only reason hockey is in the Winter games is because of the playing surface. |

Maybe hockey leagues around the world should move to a system where only players under the age of 25 can be released to the Olympics. Doesn't soccer do something like that? |
