It will be interesting to see. To me, though, I just can't see the Rangers (and Knicks) not being in Manhattan and on 34th St.
I just don't see it happening. |

Like I posted in the other blog, not only legally are there things Dolan can try and do. The way the world works is cash. Depending on who the next mayor is, hello possibly Anthony Weiner, I don't think cash under the table is off the board from Dolan to make this decision go away. If Bloomberg can rewrite the laws and get himself a 3rd term anything is possible. Another situation where I'm sure there was some serious cash under the table. I'm not moving the Rangers and Knicks just yet. |

What would moving them do to season ticket holders and television rights? There's a lot that would be affected by a move to somewhere like Long Island.
Nearly everyone in NYC can get to Penn Station (via MTA), but to Long Island is a different story. Penn Station is practically in the middle of Manhattan; LI is obviously not in the middle of anything.
Television blackouts will obviously change. But what else would it do to local businesses that advertise on MSG during Ranger/Knick games?
The fallout would be a huge hit on downtown Manhattan economy as a lot of businesses make a lot of $$$ during the fall/winter seasons of NBA and the NHL. |

So esstentially the Islanders and Rangers will have switched spots, the Isles playing within NYC Limits but georgarphically still on Long Island while the Rangers play in Nassau County??!!. Don't ever see this happening |

I can't imagine NYR not being in Manhattan.
Maybe if they built a new Nassau Coliseum the Islander would go back there and the Rangers to the Barclays Center? That would make more sense than having the Rangers play in LI and the Islanders in Brooklyn. |

Wow, I'm shocked
The earliest rumors of NYR saving grace being Nassau would be bad,
There is no train station, and if the Rangers started doing poopty I wouldn't doubt if attendance dropped.
I still think the rangers will be in MSG in 11 years,
But is it cool if isles fans start up the "Kansas City" chants now? |

What about knocking down that giant waste of space next door aka the USPS building.
Then have an underground connection from Penn Station to the new MSG. |

could this be a plot to (eventually) extort money from Dolan/MSG? obviously the city owns the land that the building sits on? anyone know the details? |

Sure sounds like something along those lines. Why approve a billion dollar, 3-year renovations and then agree to move the team in ten years?
If that were the case, then it should be Dolan who should extort money from the City. |

Sorry, had to. Seriously though, the Rangers will be fine. They almost certainly can take the city to court and have a case, they just spent close a billion dollars renovating MSG. |

Because it's always my team who gets hit with never-ending arena jokes. And for once the focus is on you guys. Don't take the jab to heart, just having a little fun. |

ultimately, no matter what, there will always be a "World's Most famous Arena" somewhere in Manhattan.
I am not really sure what Ranger haters are so happy about in this case, worst comes to worst, there will be a beautiful new MSG somewhere in the city 10 years down the line. |
