Good post, Bill....
Do NHL teams routinely scout the KHL for talent? |

In the 2004 playoff run, despite numerous injuries that destroyed the Flyers' blueline as well as their chances at a title, Markov was an absolute rock and warrier back there! I thought for sure Clarkie would extend him. I'm sure the lockout complicated that a bit. It was a short but memorable stay for Markov in Philly. |

I really liked the way Huskins played for us. If we do move a veteran defenseman for salary cap space I wouldn't mind spending the money we have left after signing Gagne on Huskins. |

markov is still one of my favorites, even though he was here for 5 minutes. his series winning goal against NJ in 2004 and his kissing primeau after he tied the game against tampa are two of my all-time favorite moments. wished he returned to the flyers after the lockout.
and speaking of former "russian" flyers who had a cup of coffe here, alexei zhitnik was a member of the ukrainian team in the open category at the maccabiah games. |

He played with a ton of passion in his short time here.
And we'll always have this goal....beating Marty B in the playoffs (finally):

I remember watching that game in McFadden's at Citizen's Bank Ballpark either during or after a Phillies game that day. The place exploded when Markov scored that goal. |

I'll never forget Markov's long range goal on Brodeur that won the 2004 series against NJ. It was really satisfying. |

Malakhov to Zhamnov to Markov. All Russian goal. Wonder how many times that's happened in Flyers history. |

Hey Hammar welcome back.
I wanted to ask you, are non Jews allowed to play in the Maccabian games?
What are the qualifications for it? |

we should have kept Nik Zherdev and built round him
(he wouldn't even be considered Russian now, I think he is Ukrainian) |

I believe it is open to all Israeli athletes regardless of religion and to Jewish athletes from the rest of the world. |

Nope, we still like him. Dude's a horse.
The only thing to worry about with him is recovery from his concussion suffered last season.
He also may or may not get traded in a salary cap shedding deal, but I don't think Homer is in a rush to trade Grossmann. |

I was there. Place went absolutely nuts. I think maybe Zhamnov scored the EN. I got tix through Rowan for $30. Totally worth missing 2 classes that day. |

I heard rumors that the Russian team may have had some ringers in there.
Maybe they made them honorary Jews for the tournament. |
