This Kid is just adding more pressure onto himself. He sign's big contract... doesn't live up to it, he's toast and the butt of all T.O fans ridicule. He signs a bridge and doesn't perform... all he will hear is an 'I told you so.'
But of course he could kill it and all this goes away. If I were him I'd play it safe... oh wait... too late. |

While the exchanges with reporters via Twitter may just be an entertaining sideshow in the grand scheme of things, it undoubtedly makes Kadri look unreasonable in his contract demands, with only a good lockout-shortened season as a selling point. - mikeinbuffalo
This is getting ridiculous. All Kadri keeps saying is that the Media is way off on his contract demands. It isn't bickering.
Of course he's not going to tell the media, or the public, what his demands are, but he seems pretty intent on emphasizing that he's not looking for $5-6M for 5-6 years.
my guess is he wants a contract similar to JVR's, for 4 years which would take him to UFA. (or does he need 5 yrs?)

Yes...the media has nothing to do with this. - stormey
Media are there to "generate" news when there is nothing to talk about. Kadri should not fall for this and let his agent do his job. |

Meh... if he signs over the weekend it all goes away.
Leafs don't have the cap room to give him a contract that would be hard to live up to.

Bobo might be correct in hearing 6mil per 6, but that's how you negotiate, start higher than you expect to get, so you land comfortably in the middle. |

his arguement was he is worth more than his one 55 point seaon, he has character and leadership ability and that should be brought to the table as well. |

Its only distracting to those ppl obsessed with following every tweet.
The reality is this is a business and there is a negotiation game being played between Leafs and Kadri's agent, plus most likely between Kadri and his agent.
Kadri tells his agent what type of deal he would agree to and his agent will work towards getting him something equalt to OR BETTER than what Kadri hopes for. Thats his job, so maybe Kadri is open to a short-term bridge deal at under $3mil, but his agent will obviously push for a long-term deal first...etc.
Let this play out and be done with it! Not the end of the world if Kadri/Franson sit for a month. Yes its a risk but it will surely tell us what our team is capable of without those two....which is a valuable thing to know it itself.
Colbourne would surely get extended playing time and IF he excels, we might just earn ourselves an extremely valuable trading piece.
This is not a grave situation as so many seem to sugest... |

Can't believe this is actually happening. Faaack!
At the beginning, I figured Naz would get signed first. Now, I'm starting to see the opposite. Franson seems much more composed and looks prepared to sign a one year deal and just go for gold next year. We'll probably see that done shortly before or during camp.
Kadri is looking like he's not going to go down so easily. If this keeps going the the way it's going, he could talk himself right out of the city. How do you think we got Kessel?
At least we can take solace that Stepan and Hodgson are in the same situation with their clubs, and that were not the only fanbase going through this. They just don't get the media circus along with it! |

Cap space wasnt the issue, just he also went on a tangent (his dad did anyways) about how O'Reilly has strong character, more fiber, etc etc, and is more than just points on a score board.
At the time kind of looked contridictive to try and be paid for your loyal and leadership ability and then sign with a division rival the first 5M contract you get |

I am excited to see what Kadri turns into as a hockey player. That said, as a person he is a prima dona who thinks a hot streak for part of a shortened year is worth putting up a fuss over. Take what the Leafs offer and be glad they stuck with you this long after doing nothing consistently in the AHL. |
