I've thought the way they've oriented their stats in the last few years has been confusing, at least from an overall perspective. For example, Hamhuis is an 87, which is likely near the high-end of the scale for players, yet an "elite," Norris-winning defenseman--say Weber--has typically maxed out at around 89-91 in the past few years. The gap just doesn't seem wide enough between mid-skilled players and superstar-type players in some cases. I know the player types modifier does alter this landscape a bit (and perhaps that's how/why the stats became the way they are), but I'd like to see a return to the days where a Crosby or Weber type guy is rated a 98 or 99. As it stands now, the entire NHL-lvl scale seems to be set between around 77-92... |

I don't play video games, thus I know nothing about these ratings or how they're compiled. What I do know, is we'll definitely finished higher than the lowly Oilers and Flames this year!! |

Luongo's rating seems a bit low. He has a comperable rating to Bieksa. Seems a bit off. |

If you're on the fence about whether to buy the game or not, I recommend it. There are some cool new features and the pace and fluidity is much better than it's been in the past.
I hear this every year and I swear they make minimal changes just so they can charge us an extra 60$. I think ill stick to the classics.
NHL 94 - thank you very much! |

Tom Sestito 73? About 10 points too high. That is the only question mark I see. |

Corrado is too low (74), Tanev is a bit low (82).... Kassian is way too high from what I saw last year (77).

Agreed. In general just too many players in the 80s range. |

Todd Cordell: Vancouver Canucks: A Look At Their NHL 14 Player Ratings - ToddCordellVAN
What a joke. Canucks are an elite team. Should be a lot more players in the 90's. What about Boho and Shinkaruk? Since they're still prospects I would say:
Boho: 87 (99 potential)
Shinkaruk: 85 (99 potential)
And Luongo should be around 95. He's one of the top 3 goalies in the league. For a game that was made in BC you would think they know a bit more. |

A grown up seats in a 1960's rocker with a cold beer in his hand and only talks hockey with his dog. He does not go onto the internet as he doesn't know what the internet is. |

The Sedins should be edged up over 90 pts... not a stretch. Higgins should be lowered to around 75 points. Booth could be moved up a couple of points.
I don't even know why Schroeder is there at 4th line centre... and doesn't deserve over 70 points. Dale Weise at 77 !!?? Why He's at best a 60 point player.
Luongo is far better than 85 points - should be more like 92... Corrado at 66? I guess he's unproven but heck so is Schroeder...and Frankie deserves a higher score like 72... |

A grown up sits in a recliner with a glass of whiskey in his hand and doesn't talk to anyone--especially his nagging wife. Then when his team loses, he utters a single profanity, goes to bed, and wakes early in the morning for another day of back-breaking labor. The cycle ends, endlessly again only by another game of hockey. - Lahey

Well, Hamhuis is one of the reasons the Canucks became elite, and his advanced say he's a top5 defenseman(defensively) in the game and he did lead our defense in scoring. Maybe you should watch him a little more. |

NHL14 is most certainly the best game the franchise has released thus far. Although it has the same skeleton as years past (they aren't magicians, there's only 365 days between releases) it is a much more refined hockey experience. In my opinion, if you love hockey video games, the fighting engine is enough of a sell alone, it's waaaaaaay better and more fun.
The design and layout, speed, puck physics, hitting, and skating are all improved, and if you've skipped one or two years... you've missed a lot. As for Vancouver ratings, I don't think many are out of place... they get too generous with players in the 75-85 rating range but the low and high end make sense for the most part. There really shouldn't be 50 guys in the 90's because there's just not that many people on a comparable level with x# of superstars (stamkos, etc.)

Game's been the same since '08 bud, that's a poop load of days to improve it. |

Go play '08 then throw in 12' 13' or 14'
Noticeable difference.
But really how much can they change a game when they're just trying to make it realistic? I don't think we'll ever see a huge change from one year to the next besides minor tweaks, roster updates and better graphics. Comparing 08 to 14 is in my opinion a bit of a stretch.
They really do need to get different announcers though, sick of hearing the same guys every year. |
