first!
Downie is one of the dirtiest players in the league...let's see what Shanny does to set the tone for the season. |

You could give him 2 if you thought he began leaving his feet before contact, but it looked clean to me. Hitting is part of the game, and players can't put themselves in vulnerable positions hoping other players let up. |

Legal hit, stop the whining. The pussification of the NHL is sickening |

For me this is the type of player I am so this looks like a highlight real hit to me but I can see where you r coming from I play no touch icing and it is so hard for an offensive player to win the race because there Is no time at all so hybrid icing is ok but I still like touch icing |

The league is always biased against the Avalanche.
This isn't any worse than the hit on Landeskog at the beginning of last year, and they didn't give a penalty nor suspension for that.
I'm one of the biggest Avalanche fans you'll find, and I say it WAS a charging penalty, but to even think it's suspension worthy is stupid.
Players keep showing a lack of respect for one another because the league continues to try and curtail the players ways of standing up for themselves, allowing them to do what they please and face little more than a small vacation at worst.
Lastly, as mentioned before, when are players going to held responsible for skating with their heads down, or turning to face the boards when they know a hit is coming???? These soft, pathetic players continue to be allowed to ruin the game by not having to be responsible for their own safety. |

How does he not make that hit, maybe a penalty for leaving his feet at the most (hear the crowd roar, they loved a hard body check as they should) |

Yes and Yes.
Repeat offender. Doesn't learn. Leaves his feet to make a hit. Where's Patrick Roy and all his crying now? Guess Trotz should have removed the stanchion and went all shrek like Roy did the other night. - Multiple Scorgasms
Roy wasn't just mad at Douche Boudreau, he was mad because Perry was squirting him with a water bottle. |

Gotta love the look on Roy's face...If that was a hit on an Av's player he would have punched out one of:
A) the opposing coach
B) a ref
C) a fan |

Really? Is that why he lost it? I saw the replays but must have missed that. Now I just think its wicked hilarious! |

In typical fashion, the league chose not to review this and call a hearing. Small market teams never get the league attention when someone takes out one of their players. Small TV market means other teams can do what every they want. It is only when TSN or ESPN pick up on it and the league thinks sponsors might be watching that they step in.
Downie 1) Left his feet BEFORE the hit, and 2) primary contact was to the HEAD, and 3) caused and injury ( Josi was out for the rest of the game).
What am I missing?

Clean hit. Sometimes the reaction draws penalties rather than the action itself. This is one of those cases. |

Clean hit - feet left ice after contact. Led with shoulder on shoulder. Did not take more than 3 full strides into hit. |

I don't even need to read this! ABSOLUTELY! It is about time someone said it about Downie. He keeps calling my home and heavy breathing then hanging up. |

He was still on his feet when contact was made. He was already going to hit Josi who had his head down, he wasn't targeting the head he lead with his shoulder. The charging penalty was fine although he did stop skating the last couple feet. Obviously the NHL feels the same as he doesn't even have a hearing.

I believe that players being hit are reckless more than the actual checker in most instances. The players turn their bodies or lower there heads to take one for the team to draw a penalty.
The game can not be about penalties it should be about play. Officiating is now bigger than the game itself. That's wrong. |

absolutely clean. downie cleaned up his act here in tampa and has been great in colorado. feet left after contact cuz josi went down. hes got to keep his head up this is the NHL. you are taught that in peewee. and its josi... not like he was really going to beat the avs... if hes going to injure someone he would have done it to one of their better players. |
