I feel bad for philadelphia fans. This is a great team ruined by the foolishness and egos of snider and holmgren. Look, I get it, the flyers have had success without winning the cup since 75'. But this tough and gritty philosophy has long run its course. It only works with the right teams, teams that also have speed and more upfront talent. Yet, those two are way too incompetent to understand any hockey concept that isn't from the 70s. They just admitted that they are not willing to listen to other ideas, that they make their huge decisions with little consultation from anyone else, and that they let another great asset in Laviolette go. They're so obsessed with big name players they let their talent go. What if they still had Bob, van reimsdyk, lupul, versteeg, or upshall? Then they traded Carter, a rare 40 goal scorer for different talent, but could never replace his first line contributions. Holmgren and Snider have also created a world of problems with their d because they always pick size over skill. Pronger was the exception when he first got traded but he was losing his speed with his age every year even before he got injured. You don't build a team's core through toughness, you support your core with toughness.

Man so glad ES and PH have nothing to do with the habs. I think lavi is a great coach, wish him all the best.

Lavi is a great coach, its a shame. I feel like Holmgren and him weren't on the same page. Lavi's system requires fast, smart mobile puck moving defensemen on every line and smart defensive centers. Wish Brind'amore was still around =P, its why things worked out with Richards despite what people said about him. And it just seems like Holmgren gave him the opposite at times. He tried his best with what he had. Berube most definitely has a challenge on his hands, I wish him the best of luck with it.

Agreed, I kinda feel like Berube is only adding to our problems in ways of our teams mindset... Lavi had the idea's and systems to work in the modern NHL. I wish whole heartily a straight up tough team would work again... wish is a key word.

Laviolette's ideas and mindset lead to a 9-23-1 record against the Rangers, Devils and Lightning the last couple years. Teams that forecheck effectively and trap well destroy Laviolette's teams. Discipline has been an issue for a long time.

Laviolette failed to adjust to fit his roster better and to beat the tougher defensive teams out there.
