Couple questions Bill.
Is Gostisbere not playing in WJC because he is too old? And do you think he will be a Phantom next year, or will he return to school. Not sure how many years he has left.
And With Hagg. Will he come to North America next year, or 1 more year in Europe?
IMO I think Terry Murray would be great at improving on thier faults. |

Man it sucks to be at work today. First time in the construction business I've had to work the day after xmas. Also the first time the guys in the field like having an inspector around giving everyone a hard time and enforcing holiday traffic rules which prevents them from 75% of their work. |

No offense, but if you do road work, thank god. Those road construction crews hardly ever work and take forever to do anything. |

He acts very mature for his age and we sometimes expect more because you tend to forget he is 18 yrs old.
Seems like things are the same all over. I wonder what the Swedish fan term for "bust" is.
Maybe over there they understand that young players need time to develop. Something we tend to forget over on this side of the pond. |

Canada looked dominating today. Fluky first goal and a fanned pass on the second for Germany. Otherwise, Canada absolutely dominated. Still see them as the silver medal favorite after Sweden with USA and Russia battling for bronze. |

Laughton is playing shutdown role on the third line and not getting PP time. He's also first unit PK. Leier is 4th line and 2nd line PK.
Leier took another penalty in the 3rd but it was a terrible call. Leier's line had some very strong shifts as the game progressed. |

Drouin and Mantha on the same line is pretty devastating. They're a match made in heaven. |

Hagg sounds a lot like Pitkanen. I'd certainly be fine with a player like that. I really want them to be patient with Him. He sounds like the type of player who will have many peaks and valleys. I don't want to see the team give up on him if he has a bad season at age 22 or 23. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: WJC Roundup, Hagg - bmeltzer
Bill,
Sorry to switch gears, but looking at the standings & noticing a few teams in the west that in precarious positions
Winnipeg
Nashville
Calgary
With the west being so competitive & these teams teetering at the .500 mark, yet are so far out of contention due to the glut of teams playing so much better ahead of them, wondering if they look like potential trade partners.
I know Winnipeg is in dire need to make the playoffs, it looks as though Calgary may have switched their position of possibly rebuilding with Burke taking over somewhat in a culture change.
Not sure what Nashville's position is, are they content sliding down without a possible change in personnel, (that being a non traditional hockey market), yet they've done so well playing a tenacious brand of hockey, yet their fanbase could dwindle if they slide any further.
Hard to see us "standing pat" moving forward if we continue our current win one, lose one pattern. |

With the exception of Timonen, there really aren't any veteran players on the Flyers that other teams would want. Plus, the Flyers aren't going to trade anyone if they're in contention.

There are teams that are in similar situations, they need a positional player, or a specific player to give them a spark, or a jump.
I still see us as a bubble team, even in the poor east standings, if we don't do something to tweak this defense, we can't keep relying on mason to continue stealing games, as that situation is already showing leaks, and when emery is in, it's even more apparent.
The rangers, redwings, devils, blue jackets, & leafs have all had injury problems, as these teams get healthy the east is only going to get more competitive, teams like the senators, & capitals, will be even better once they get their goaltending situation fixed. |

I'm not sure what you're suggesting. Do you think we should be sellers or buyers? |
