I might prefer the Islanders pick in 2015; the way they are going. Might get you McDavid |

I don't think the Isles will be in the bottom 10 this year, so by default I think we get the pick. |

Trade Miller to Detroit for Jimmy Howard... Straight up.
-Detroit gets the better goalie, making them an immediate Cup contender (in Alfredson's last yr)... And what's more is they need not worry about Ryan walking via UFA, because he's been dreaming about playing with his bro in Detroit since his childhood.
-Buffalo gets the Syracuse native Howard (who is talented and not as old as Miller), to platoon with Enroth moving forward.
It's a win-win for both clubs. |

Then draft Ekblad 1st overall and The Sabres are rock solid in net & on the blue line with young top their talent.
2/3 of the "rebuild" would be squared just like that! |

You might be right, but if the draft were today, Isles pick 4th. It's still early though. |

Nice blog, Garth. I don't foresee he talk with the islanders going that way, but a good read on the new guy. |

If Miller does not stay here , he will be going to the west coast to be with his lady. No way he signs in Detroit . Little head has more input than the big one. |

So, basically it would be 2007 all over again and we'd be complaining we don't have any scoring, except no Vanek or Pominville, but still Stafford. If you could win a game 0-0, we might have a chance some nights... |

I agree 100% . I don't understand this fascination with Ekblad . We have a full cupboard of top notch defensive prospects . And have no firepower at all. Time to start filling needs |

Do I hear an Amen! from the congregation?! Howard has been a winner in the past, but not lights out recently. I was hoping for this deal before Howard signed his contract extension... Miller won't sign there as a UFA, because of Howard's contract. But that doesn't mean it won't make sense to trade them for each other... but I'd make them include Anthony Mantha for Grigorenko in the trade. |

Enroth should check himself... "Hard to win with this team?" Miller seems to be doing it just fine recently. Not to mention the 6 shots that blew past the Ewok and rang off the posts in this game... it was only fitting that the GWG bounced off a post and hit Jhonas in his behind and then into the net (and by a former Sabre who couldn't score for Lindy Ruff while he was here)... the irony behind that is crazy!
I hope Eklund is right and the Oilers are interested in Enroth, I am really not convinced that he can be a #1 netminder. Shots taken up high on him seem to find the net (or posts) more often than not, IMO. Quick feet though, I'll give him that. |

Why should he check himself? The Sabres have offered him 1.3 GPG in his starts. Do you think it's hard to win in the NHL when you can't give up more than 1 goal per game? Perhaps he should give a canned response about how everyone needs to be better instead of telling the truth. |

I always laugh when the Buffalo News, for instance, puts in a headline that someone like Grigorenko wants to stay with an NHL club versus AHL or being sent back to Juniors. They make it sound like it's a tough decision when it's really a no-brainer. Not only are you at the level of your dream, but your paycheck is at least 3x as much when you're in the NHL than in the minors or Juniors. |

Exactly....what the heck is he supposed to say: "aw man, the NHL is too tough. I hope they send me to junior so I can tear some new asses" |

San Jose if they can afford him. Niemi and Havlat would be almost 9m in saved Cap Space for them if they can get rid of them this offseason |

I'm not saying he doesn't have a gripe... I'm saying that with an inch here or there, he would have given up 5-6 goals last night. His glove was late on at least 3 of the shots that rang off the posts. He got smoked! My beef with his comment is that this is a team sport and the beauty of a team sport is that you're all in it together... through the good and bad. If he gives up 5 goals and the Sabres (miraculously) found a way to score 6, will he go to the press and announce that he was terrible and thankfully his team won it for him? I doubt it... at best he'd say he wished he had a couple of them back. That is my beef... I've always liked him personally, but he's never going to be on Miller's level... and I'm not a Miller fan (at all). I just respect how good Miller truly is, even if he's still a hair below the Hasek / Brodeur / Roy level of goaltender. |

Grigo should stay in Buffalo. He will only reinforce bad habits in Jr. He is skilled enough to float in Jr and put up good numbers. He won't learn anything there. The only place to learn how to play NHL hockey is in the NHL. |
