Just to leap on something some the last blog. I can't beleive some of you guys are hoping Torts gets suspended. Dont get me wrong, I can't stand the guy, but Hartley was the classless one here. Starts the 4th line for no apparent reason. Then he stands there silent, ignoring Torts on the bench?Come on, if someone pulled this on Berube and the Flyers you wouldn't stand behind Berube doing the exact same thing? I seem to remember this bunch loving Lavi for getting up on those boards against the Pens... |

i've seen a 4th line start a hockey game many times, and never have i seen a brawl like that to start the game. torts didn't have to put out his 4th line. he's a (frank)ing hack. |

I think the Flyers started the Lappy/Betts/Carcillo line out a few times to start games as well.
Hartley imo did nothing wrong, trying to set the pace of the game. Torts responded, and a brawl happens. So what, it doesn't happen all that often and it makes the game entertaining.

happy for the win, but this team seems to have a lot of trouble playing a solid 60 minutes. eventually these 3rd period comebacks will stop. - hammarby31
To be honest, I would be happy with a solid 40 minutes. Lately we really have been only playing a solid 20. |

Im just happy they win at this point. If you kind of lower your expectations with the current crew, it makes games much more fun.
Its all I can ask for, an entertaining game, which they have been providing as of late. Even that Nashville loss, that was some damn good hockey. |

He's not going to be suspended for who he put on the ice or any chirping from the bench, but when you are caught on camera trying to charge into the opposing teams locker room between periods, well the NHL will most likely respond. |

That was a masterful tactical move by Hartley... he put Torts between a rock and a hard place, with no good choices either way... he could either lose the respect of the room by ducking Hartley's challenge, or he could risk letting a game between unequal rivals devolve into the kind of mess that we saw, giving the Flames a chance to win.
Torts not only got out-coached, but he completely lost his cool and embarrassed himself. Calgary probably wouldn't have gotten a point on the road without that brawl getting the Canucks completely off their game to start.
Torts is just too easy to bait. |

He always has been...but so is Ken Hitchcock, with that and injuries the reason this franchise's best team of the modern era was left empty-handed in 2004.
Still tough to swallow

It was painful to watch for a stretch, but boy, did they turn it around in the third.
They have obvious flaws, and we all know them. But i maintain this team is better than some think and really could win the East if -- and it would be difficult -- but if they could find a bit more speed and skill for a defense spot and one spot on the fourth line

I wish they wouldn't have held anyone back. Let's see how eager he is to fight the entire Flames roster when no one is standing in the way. |

It's not even like were expecting to see them play the way they did in the 3rd for the whole game. That's just unsustainable. But they need to play much better defensively. Especially, the forwards. Allowing that many odd man rushes is unforgivable and most of them were on the forwards not keeping one man high at all times. |

Bill said this also. I'm glad to see the wins and that fact that this team can come from behind, but chasing every game is tough. Show up for a full 60. |

agreed!
the forwards didn't help the defense out at all thru 2 periods, allowing shots from everywhere, time & space against any team will yield the same results |

I was thinking more in terms of giving him some pp time and maybe reevaluating a contract offer after the season if he stays healthy and continues to produce.

my sentiments exactly, I was never saying sign him now big $
I was only saying yesterday, if he stays healthy & continues playing like a top 4 guy, the team will have a decision to make after the season, (as oppose to the original obvious decision of throwing him in a dumpster)
& signing another piece of crap over 35 UFA |
