One reason I could see is that he and/or his agent wants a 6/7 year deal and he turns 29 this year. That contract could be an issue starting year 3 or 4 with the style he plays. Could be what's scaring Sather and co. |

Because obviously Sather has had talks with his agent and he is either expecting too much or leaning towards free agency... what a silly question "why is Sather trying to trade Callahan?"
Come on.... Really? |

I remember when Booth was the powerforward that would put the Nucks over the top. |

The Leafs would play the lightning as is my understanding with the new wildcard format. The Rangers I believe would play Philly and they would need a guy like Callahan. |

Ek.
The reason is simple. 7 years at $6 mil per. That's to much money for what Callahan brings. Unfortunate but a reality.
Yes another team will pay Callahan that much as a UFA. Better them than the Rangers. Hell someone was stupid enough to give Clarkson $5.75 for 7 years.
Don't get me wrong. I love Callahan's game but at $4.5 for 5 years, maybe even 5 at 4 but any more than that & I say take the best offer on the table & move on.
Since he returned from his last injury Vigneault has been giving him no power playtime & it's had little impact. Other players partucularly Zuccarelo have been getting it done. |

Exactly.
On another note this has to be the first time I've ever seen Ek bash a team publicly for their strategy which probably means Sathers got the right idea.
I like Callahan and understand the "more than points" argument but at some point you have to draw the line for what you're willing to pay a guy who doesn't get 60 points. |

Sather isn't TRYING to move cally. He is getting a feel for what teams are willing to pay though in case contract negotiations remain far apart. |

Because he wants Over $6MM a year.
He is not worth that, IMO. Apparently many agree, icluding the Rags GM.

The other main reason is Vigneault likes Richards. He has been giving him all the quality minutes he can handle & If Richards isn't being bought out & that appears to be very possible now, then that means Callahan has to go.
I would still be shocked if NYR doesn't use this no cap penalty opportunity to get out of Richards contract but Sather has shocked me many times before. |
