Where is everybody?
I like seeing Metz getting lots of quality ice time with Slovakia (or is that Slovenia - I get so confused). Get him rounded back into shape and hopefully he'll regain some of his confidence for the final run after the Olympics. |

Outside of his game vs the USA haven't watched him, watched a bit of Sweden though. |

Didn't Forsberg also take 3 shots in 94, with the 4th being the "stamp" moment? I think he went as one of the first 3, and then both 6 and 7. |

That shg and that assist were beauties. So naturally, I expect him to be traded for our true need, a 2nd/3rd pairing stay at home defenseman, by the tdl. |

Whoa...that toe drag then pass was sweet. Has his game grown to where he can be looked at as a #2 center in the NHL? - Just5
On an offensively starved team he might be. But he won't supplant any of the flyers centers to start next year all things equal. |

He probably won't be asked to do that here or at least to start. Think he is now mainly being used in a shut down role.
He hasn't played with who he used to for a few games now. |

2nd line center down the road isn't out of the question, but who knows when he gets here how they plan to use him. |

I just don't see how that fits with the Flyers plans. Giroux and Schenn are their targets for top 2 centers ATM.
This is the problem when you have a team that drafts too many players within a single position. It causes gaps in developments for other positions.

There is no such thing as having too many good players at one position. Things change in a hurry in Hockey. And when you have a surplus of good players at a position, you can make deals to shore up another position. It's extremely important to be good up the middle of the ice.

How so exactly? He didn't say you had to have a team of all stars. The 2010 flyers were extremely deep down the middle and had used assets the previous off season to short up the d with pronger. |

Yeah, with Lindros, Brind'Amour, Primeau, Hawerchuk, Roenick, Gratton, and Otto on the roster at any given time, I'm sure glad they didn't waste draft picks on more centers like Richards, Carter, Zubrus, Gagne, and Sharp.

The part about being able to make deals with a surplus at one position, to sure up another position, takes the Cap into consideration. |

wow - what a game. i liked what I saw from Laughts during his 6 game NHL stint. i truly think his progress makes schenn or coots available for the right dman. |

Always draft BPA. You don't want to miss out on a future all star because you have too many at one position |

Yeah and I'm sure the salary cap hasn't changed the way teams should draft, right?
Get a clue. |

No, it hasn't. As an example, the Flyers take the best player available. And the Cap is not a consideration in that. Drafted players that make the NHL will be on a 3 year entry level deal. |

BPA only works if you're willing to trade the player to get what you need, or trade players in that position on the team to make room for the future star without leaving any holes.
If we take centers for the next 10 years because they're the BPA, how does that fix our defense?
Laughton is trade bait if we keep Giroux, Schenn, and Coots.
And in regards to what position Schenn was drafted in 2008, his position in the draft really only matters with regards to pay. He was ranked ahead of Myers and Pietrangelo. So... yeah... |
