No offence but that's a bad question. Any moron could scrap together a team to make a run at 8th place. That kind of thinking is what led us to the years of mediocrity that drove this fanbase mad.

How long till we're a real contender is the better question. This draft will probably determine that. If we can land a game changer here then we're in business. If we miss on this pick, it may take longer.

It's the main reason why I hope this team is bad again next year. Three key guys at the top this year and there's plenty of skepticism around all of them. But there are about 6 or 7 guys next year who are on par or better than this years big three. More chances to hit on a game changer in the draft even outside the top 2 than in this draft.

I would normally agree, but as long as Boston is still in it, I will always have a new favorite team to root for! GO HABS!!!!

Welcome back Kevin. My thoughts .. 2 seasons .

it should take 4-5 years if they build through the draft. 4 to sneak in, 5 to be a legit play-off team

If they can somewhow swing a trade like a Spezza/Hemsky or Thorton/Marleau it could be 3 to get to the play-offs but the downside would be that they would fissel again once those two types of players fade (3-4 years)

with what the sharks have done i don't think we should want anything to do with Thornton/marleau, plus they don't fit the rebuild through the draft model

I may have been wrong about Chicago but man I called San Jose. They are pure play off trash! Enjoy that never changing roster for years to come lol.

In a perfect world I would say three years. But I honestly would rather them take the time and do it right.

I really don't think he wants to be an assistant coach, but it would be nice to watch him and Nolan build this team. I believe both are defensive minded coaches.

Why are you not trolling anymore???

If you look at the Pittsburgh and Chicago "Models" They were both out of the playoffs for about 4-5 years before they got better. I say the Sabres will take 5 years to get into the playoffs. So we got 2 more years of no playoffs. But I see the 2015-2016 being the up trend. The Sabres will do everything in their power to stink next season to get a chance at both McDavid and Eichel. (They will be rooting for the Islanders to stink as well to get the chance to scoop them both up.) If this happens, here is the next Crosby and Malkin. Sabres fans finally rejoice!
