Bring a stickler for details I know however the photo is from 1975 in Buffalo as they are wearing their road orange uniforms. That and I think Clement wasn't on the team in 1974.

I remember the day well though but not the game. I remember being an excited 11 year old helping my parent open up the family pool. I stopped downstairs to flip the TV on and watched the last 45 seconds of the game. I had thought it was going to be a night game and didn't know it was a matinee!

Right you are ... that was the presentation in Buffalo in 1975. (This is why I shouldn't post in the middle of the night.) I have replaced the image with that of MacLeish scoring the 74 Cup winning goal. Clement came up to the Flyers from the AHL Richmond Robins in mid-December, 1971, and scored the insurance goal to make the final score in the 1975 Cup winning game in Buffalo 2-0 after Bob Kelly had earlier scored the game and Cup winner. Clement was then traded in the off season to Washington for the Caps first overall pick in the 1975 Draft used to pick Mel Bridgmen. Thanks again for the spot.

I think you're confusing them with Pittsburgh, Montreal, and (somehow) Toronto.

No your confusing that with our local media, fan base, etc.

There is really nothing wrong with nostalgia. Remembering and honoring the past in hockey as well as many other endeavors is a natural and appropriate human trait. The Flyers certainly do that, but so too do many other organizations in hockey and other sports, some even more so than the Flyers such as Montreal, Toronto, and Boston. (If you don't think so just look at the opening "torch" ceremony prsented before every Canadiens' game.) The character of a team and its fan base is not only determined the present, but everything that came before. And that's the way it should be.

This is indeed an excellent and well researched book by Alan Bass (to which I also contributed) on the background and meaning of the 1967 expansion of the NHL from six to twelve teams.

How cool. Yeah I read it last summer sitting on a beach up in Canada on lake Erie(where else would you want to be reading a book about hockey?).

As far as the nostalgia thing there's nothing wrong with being nostalgic and having pride in your history. The Flyers have a very storied history in the NHL. The tough part for Sabres fans is having a source of pride in our team. We've been around over 40 years and no cups. Not to say that don't have a storied history or things to be proud of, but it is noticeably weird trying to be proud and nostalgic with these circumstances.
