can't imagine how much leverage the Schenn camp can think he has. He has shown improvements but its not as tho he has had a break out season yet.

You know Tim they can look to deal Vinny and Hartnell as well. With Vinny not a fit for Berubes system maybe Nashville likes him with Lavy and all. Also maybe if Hartnell is told his minutes will reduce he might be ok with a move

Yes we keep him. He is a 22 year old who just finished his 1st full NHL season in the league and had 20 goals and 41 points. If the Flyers want to continue down the road of just giving young players like Sharp and JVR away then fine trade him.....

Or maybe hextall just doesn't move as quick as holmer did to get their free agents signed, like a lot of other teams in the league?

You or anyone else have no grounds to speculate because hextall has had about a month on the job with zero prior history of how he works these situations

But continue speculating if you want it's fascinating

Both Schenn bros + Simmonds to EDM for Eberle & the 3rd pick in the draft

Might as well suggest something crazy & have some fun with it.

The easiest way to ruin a young player's development -- especially a defenseman -- is to rush him to the NHL before he is ready. Hägg is NOT ready for the NHL right now, and Morin probably isn't either. I also think Gostisbehere would benefit from some time in the AHL.

I would personally rather have Timonen on a one-year contract at a discounted rate from his current deal than be tied long-term to Niskanen at north of $6M.

Bill, couldn't agree more. I pray the Flyers don't even call Niskanen's camp. He is MASSIVELY overrated, and is not even close to the type of D we need. I hope another team in the East over-pays him by the truck-load.

Obviously Luke Schenn was not worth JVR, but thats not Luke Schenn's fault who he was traded for. Once you get past that, he's a decent young defensemen making reasonable money for 2 more seasons before you need to make a decision on resigning. I have no doubt he can be your #4 or #5 Dman on a contending team. So no, you don't trade him unless you are getting another young Dman back in return. The only way i'm trading Brayden is for another young defensemen also.

Sure. We'll take Bo Horvat and your choice of Joakim Eriksson or Jacob Markstrom.

lol... Keep both him and Luke. They're a package.

Trade Vinny (retain money), Laughton, 1st '14, and 1st '15, and Grossmann if we can for Florida's 1st.

I really think Florida would consider that because they're getting 3 players who can step into their roster out of camp and they get 2 picks!!!

I know I'll get chewed-up for this, but those players are all expendable if we keep Schenn's, AND we'd get Ekblad to build around for the future.

Solves most, if not all, cap trouble.
Gets us the D we need moving forward
We're set! lol.

Sounds great, except that Ekblad is the best defenseman in a very weak draft. He'd have a big problem trying to crack the top-6 last year. He's not Jones or Doughty, he projects more as Erik Johnson.

That is not even funny, okay with it being a 2 for 2 but Simmonds is not going anywhere!

They wouldn't be set. How long before Ekblad would be ready to take on top responsibilities as a defenseman for the Flyers?

Yes, I absolutely trade Brayden Schenn in the right deal, if it presents itself. I would not trade him just to trade him, or because of any contract issues.

This would be a hard deal for me to do but if they could flip the 3rd and theirs with say one of cousins akeson or another prospect to fla for 1st overall id be happy

Trade him for what? That's the key in this whole discussion. If he's the centerpiece in a deal for a good, young number one defenseman, then yes. If you're dealing him because of a contract situation or just to make a move, it would be stupid.

If Brayden can be packaged to acquire a good Dman than yes do it! He was inconsistent throughout the year and there were times I hardly knew he was on the ice.

OK, done. Ekblad, Ghost, Morin, Hagg, Schenn, Alt and AMac in a few years looks good to me. B. Schenn slides back into the second line center and Akeson gets the shot he deserves. Maybe we can even fool a team at the deadline and unload Coburn for a first, reclaiming in 2015.

2 off of this list of guy's will be gone by trade.

B Schenn
L Schenn
S Couturier
B Coburn
M Streit
S Hartnell
V Lecavalier
M Read
N Grossmann

Now for who, and for what is another question. Jokinen on LW would be nice. Nikitin, Nikita on D maybe as a FA. Maybe even a Justin Schultz from Edmonton.
