He should be a good player this year lined up with the Sedins.

"There are simply too many assets in Vancouver for the Canucks to drop to the bottom of the league the way an Edmonton or Buffalo has. But if they don’t use those assets to get younger — the way Benning turned Kesler into Bonino (26), Luca Sbisa (24), Dorsett (27) and centre Jared McCann at the draft — they’ll hit the same cliff Edmonton and Calgary have fallen off.

This Canucks team will legitimately push for the playoffs, but if we know Benning — and we’ve been, ahem, right about him thus far — he may forego another first-round exit to maximize a couple of veteran assets at the trade deadline.

When you have a blueline that includes Edler (28), Kevin Bieksa (33), and Dan Hamhuis (32 in December), you’ve got options. One of those defencemen may be worth a first-round pick and a legit prospect at the trade deadline, a time when a guy as smart as Benning with a defenceman as valuable as Bieksa can be a lethal combination."

An article from Spec that I can agree with...

I asked this on another thread earlier and was wondering what the consensus is here:

Now that we have Vrbata, is Burrows next to be shipped out? I heard there had been a deal for him to go to NJ but he wouldn't waive his NTC. Maybe he accepts to go to Montreal (who failed in their attempt to sign Vrbata) and the homecoming deals continue. If so what should JB ask for in return?

I get the sense that Carol is not a fan of the Vrbata signing, but I'm not 100% sure.

If Vrbata can keep himself with the Sedins for a good chunk of the season, he very well could be looking at career numbers.

Remember, there's a new vacancy on the top PP unit.

Can he handle those kind of minutes? Not so sure.

with a simliar cap hit and longer term, you'd think we could get a similar return what we got for Kesler, no?

The free agent market price is what I don't like. Other than that I don't think its a bad pick up for our needs.

deleted it 'cuz it wasn't clear enough... "now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!" (reacting to Benning being a TDL seller). As we were talking about earlier, it's time for asset management to take priority over sentimentality.

I think Vrbata was definitely overpaid but do like it better than the Miller signing. After seeing Santorelli sign 1 year at 1.5 I think Benning really dropped the ball. I am starting to really wonder if he has watched much video on this team because two players who did very well for us last season ( Lack and Santorelli) seem to of been ignored.

Yeah it gets a little ridiculous. Finding new chemistry is a huge part of managing your assets. People get a little crazy not being able to let players go. Players as well.

I didn't like the Miller sighing.
Can't complain about Vrbata- we have been asking for second line/secondary scoring and that is what he is...
Santorelli was a pleasant surprise, would have been able to provide depth and wondering why Benning couldn't get him under contract at similar numbers...

Yeah, I dont' think Benning really cares about who did what last year, just the bottom line results. Who is staying, the core and who do we want to bring in. Santo wasn't part of the core. If Santo had played the whole season, it may have turned out differently...

linemate number 439 for the Sedins since joining the league 14 years ago. I'm hoping he pops in 20-25 goals. Anybody flanking the wing in Vancity over David Booth is an upgrade imo.

So who is going to get the puck off the opposing team on that line cause none of them will go do it.

I was wondering what his role was for the Yotes? Seems like a pp specialist. Guessing not much pk time but if he has had Tippet as a coach for a number of seasons, it would be my guess he can't be too bad defensively?

Vrbata a good year with Whitney, just needs a setup guy

Anybody can play with the Sedins right?

It is nice to see that we may have some options.
