Dustin's $5.875 cap hit is high...especially after a sub par season.
But honestly...Brown is huge in the playoffs during the 2 Cup runs. And he was on pace for almost 35 goals during the 2012-2013 season had he played 82 games.
Plus, when was the last time a 2 time Stanley Cup Captain was traded? |

if mike richards isn't bought out after the year he had, there's no way brownie is traded as the captain of the cup winning team. especially if there aren't any comments from lombardi about conditioning or preparation.
a full season where he's on the top line with kopi and gabo would hopefully boost those point totals...guilt from association alone. the lack of pp time has to be factored in to expectations, as he's not going to get nearly as much going forward.
even if he settled into a 40 pt, 3-RW/LW that leads the team and league in hits and pushes the team far into the playoffs, i'd be fine with that. esp if you can continue to convince top guys like gabo to join the kings at less than market value to be part of a perennial winner. |

I graded him a C-
Maybe the knee was still bothering him? Maybe his style of play was wearing on him and he wanted to save some for later? I'm not sure, but I think his top 6 days are behind him. IMO, a line with him and Stoll can have a serious impact on a lot of games. I don't think he gets traded any time soon. My knock on him has always been his decision making with the puck. Less puck on his stick, the better. |

Agree. I think he got his act together at the end of the season and did well in the playoffs. The way our lines look now I think almost everybody should have a better season next year. |

I don't understand the argument that Brown's cap hit going forward is too high? I know you didn't say "too high", I added that, but hear me out because more and more posters keep bringing this up.
The guy got us 2 cups while being paid peanuts. He gave a discount in -08, he could've fetched twice that as an UFA but didn't. That salary discount paved way for DL to pick up other players overinflated value and build a solid contender. I have no problem with Brown getting paid what he's owed this time around and I don't think DL has a problem with it either. He knows he's back-paying a guy that made it all possible.
The reality is that majority of all "bad" or "too high" contracts are back-pay contracts. They are paid on a result. Every team does this, well...maybe not the Flyers and NYR, but majority of teams do this frequently. You can't just ask players to accept discounted rates when they're in their prime and after a bad season say See Ya! That crap travels around and eventually you will have a hard time finding players that will accept a discounted term or even want to play for your team.

Here, let me fix this for you.
His Season
Brown had a completely underwhelming season statistically.
So what were the positive signs? Well, his shooting percentage on the year was far below what he normally works at. So we can expect him to quit sucking during the regular season really soon.
Brown is what he is though. He's a dirty player I feel sorry for. Would you ever go home if you were him?
Moving Forward
Considering the quality of players Brown plays with, the amount of powerplay time he logs, and the offensive zone chances he gets, next year Brown ought to score at least 80 points. Heck, at his $5,875,000 cap hit, the fan mutiny is easily foreseeable if his current production continues.
Outside of the Luongo runnings, the Hertl destroyings, and the usual knee in that Olympic display of goodwill from our country, Brown is just an angel.
He had a below average regular season, probably D worthy in my opinion. However, he had a solid playoffs which probably warranted a B rating. Well, how can I argue with that? It's spot on.
Final Grade: C (Ok, I was going to use a really nasty word here. But the dude just captained his team to two Cups in three years. I even thought he was a disgrace when he was playing for my US team. But I'd probably take him on my team....at $3,000,000 per year. So he's overpaid....big deal. Oh, and congratulations again on the Cup L. A.) |

When the rest of the league hates a key player on your team... you know you have a good one. Sure, he's overpaid... but I bet every team in the league would happily grumble about having Dustin Brown on the payroll. Brown is to the Kings as Lucic is to the Bruins... |

Not sure why you and others bring up Luongo and Hertl... Hertl should have been called for the penalty on Brown. That's just a fact! Luongo wasn't intentional at all. Brown is who he is and he's led us to two cups. Anaheim is a regular season wonder team until they prove otherwise. |

I guess the Ducks fans haven't figured that out yet. It's all about stats and goals to the kids these days. Who knew you could win a Cup(well, 2) scoring by committee. But hey, at least they have goal-scorers.
Brown does what he does best; lead teams to championships.

For being such a dirty player he has been suspended once and even that suspension was dubious at best.
And if he keeps producing cups he, the kings and theirs fans would be fine with his "D" you have bestowed on his regular season. |

Id grade him at a B. Even with the crappy point numbers. Mostly because of his leadership he bring. His point totals will go up playing with Kopi and Gabby. Hes a perfect fit for those two skilled guys. Hes going to bang the body hard and open the ice and chip in some dirties.
Cant wait for the season. Im all fired up already just thinking about it. |

This is why I love Dustin. He gets under your skin. IMO he took the Yotes right out of there game in 2012 WCF. He also makes you a complete idiot for believing he went after Hertles knee. You can probably watch the replay 50 times and still think it was a dirty play. This is why I'm proud to have him as our captain. |

he does all that with the same expression on his face as when he is in a slump. He is a pro and is a stable leader......he has shown some extra emotion a couple times though, he does get a big smile on his face everytime he is handed the Stanley cup |

He's a ducks fan. Doesn't really understand what dirty really is. Brown has been suspended ONCE for a stupid hit on pominville.
And yes most people besides ducks and sharks fan agree Brown did not stick out knee. If anything hertl is guilty of it and payed the price. |
