Jason Lewis: Is Drew Doughty Captain Material? - Jason_Lewis
He's not ready yet! Captains exude quiet confidence. It was Dustin Brown calming Doughty when he was called for the penalty and Penalty shot against Corey Perry in game 7. Doughty, rightly so was arguing Perry's stick broke on a shot and not on a slash later on in the sequence. I almost think that's why Brown has toned it down a little because he's captain. |

I believe he is. Plays with a lot of passion. Can't go wrong with given that C to anyone on that team though. By the way, Ducks fans love boys!!!!! |

Not sure if he's captain material yet but I'd give him an A for sure right now. He's very competitive and let's face it he can take over a game pretty much on his own.
I think he will be captain of the Kings one day, maybe sooner than we think |

I always disagreed with giving the best players the captain letters. Captains should motivate, inspire and hold players accountable, on the ice and in the locker room. Essentially an extension of the coaching staff on the ice. Too soon for Doughty. |

Best defenceman in the nhl, Canada's best player in Russia, wins at every level. If not now, very soon. |

One word: Yes. Without doing any comparison to other captains, I look how he handles things on the ice and on the bench. While I don't follow the LAK franchise - what gives it away? - I can tell by the last dozen playoff games the 'Hawks and Kings played in 14 months. He's a leader, he goes the extra mile and sometimes leads the universe in TOI. Doughty is certainly captain material. |

No, Brad Doty is not captain material until he can control his emotions. |

Please don't get me wrong. I'd have Doughty on my team any day. If you traded him for any Duck defender, the Ducks would probably win a championship in the next three years.
But this guy is a jerk. Guys won't follow him. Just keep him as a talented defenseman and count your blessings. The Kings should have their character guys wear the letters. Doughty is not one of them.
Oh, and this is just a clip, but if you saw the whole thing, the bit at 0:25 is pretty telling. Why does anyone of Doughty's pedigree have to do anything but point at his ring finger when speaking to a career minor leaguer?

Yes, but give it to him 2 years before his UFA year so he feels compelled to stay...at a discount. |

He gets too emotional when a call goes against him or the team, Williams, Richards, and Greene would be above Doughty on my list |

Agreed... All three ahead of Doughty. Why burden the guy with being a captain anyways. let the guy just worry about his game and playing hard.
Let Richards who is on the 3rd line worry about being captain. let your top guys worry about playing the game and none of the off ice issues. |

Agreed. I'm pretty satisfied with Brown, but if it were to change, I'd give it to Kopitar, Richards, or Carter before Doughty. |

He needs to learn to keep his mouth shut. Sure, he's a winner. But he does whine a ton.
The Kings have a lot of better options for Captain. Kopitar, Williams, Green, Carter, etc. |

I thought it was interesting that Doughty was the 12th player to hoist the cup in the post-game festivities.... I don't believe that Doughty has the respect of his teammates.... or else they would have given it to him earlier...
It sure looked like he told Carter to STFU when he was throwing a fit on the bench.. it was mentioned somewhere that he also cursed out Brown....
Neither is considered appropriate behavior for leadership... |
