Projection for when Parks could play in the AHL? - coffee junkie
If the Flyers choose to sign him, perhaps at the end of this season; certainly in 2015-16. It's still by no means a slam-dunk that the Flyers sign him (although the ISS scout I spoke with believes Parks could be an NHL bottom-six forward).
The Flyers tend to sign drafted collegiate players ahead of their senior year. Parks has benefited from an extra USHL season plus four years of collegiate hockey, so it may be different with him.
Philly will have until Aug 15, 2015 to figure it all out. Parks was drafted in 2010, so that is just about the maximum evaluation period a team can have to make a final decision. When drafting a long-term project player, it is good to have such an extended time to track his development. Sophomore season leg injury aside, Parks has come along on a slow-but-steady basis since 2010.

It'd be nice if there was a more uniform rights period for players from different leagues, especially for Euros.
Can't believe it's been 15 years since Dimitri Tertyshny passed away...kid looked like he was going to have solid career

Thank you! A 5th rounder that is progressing along and could be an NHL player if he continues is fantastic news.
I'm sure you are aware but PIT blogger and media have turned on to Hayes as a potential target and believe he could find the opportunity he is supposedly looking for there with so much money in the middle and a constant search for cheap wingers. J. Shultz got roughly 4M after bonuses, how much do folks see Hayes getting. In a bidding war if/when it comes to that? |

Bill- I know it's not flyer related but I would love to hear your take on the leafs asst GM hire of the young stat guru and if that's an area you think the flyers should/shouldn't emphasize with their vacant asst GM spot |

Food for thought.
I know Lecavalier is 34 years old but there are plenty of players that can produce well into their late 30's
1999-2000 80 gp 25g 42a 67p -25
2000-2001 68 gp 23g 28a 51p -26

2011-2012 64 gp 22g 27a 49p -2
2012-2013 39 gp 10g 22a 32p -5
2013-2014 69 gp 20g 17a 37p -16
I say give the guy a chance. He has proven his whole career to be a performer. He had a rough year.... |

The problem I would see with the Flyers is bonuses in the contract, and the bonus cushion. This guy is obviously going to get some bonuses in his deal, and they might be max. So depending on whether he would meet those bonuses, the Flyers if they signed him, would be looking at some serious bonus overages. They're already looking at 1.5M overage for Timonen. That would change of course if the Flyers were able to make other roster moves such as trading Lecavalier.

No question about it. If he's healthy, there is no reason why he can't continue to produce as a solid offensive player.

He needs to play 2nd line center or figure out how to play with Giroux. If he can do that. He'll eclipse the 30 goal mark again. IF HE'S HEALTHY |

He definitely needs to be put in the right spot with the right players. But that's part of the problem. Finding the right fit.

Well he certainly cant be shuffled all over the lineup. He did just fine as the 2nd line center. Then Berube was stubborn and kept Schenn in that spot. IMO Schenn didnt really excel in that spot. He was average. I say play Schenn on Giroux's wing in training camp and see how that goes. Split the Vinny/Schenn duo up.... |

I think VL does deserve another chance and I won't be disappointed if he comes back.

Could that be a 2nd line? Two wingers who can play a responsible defensive game on either side.
The only thing is, I would hate to have Simmonds on 3rd line.

Nobody is saying he can't produce, the issue is skating & his two way game, combined with really only being effective at C, where three of the organization's best young players are most effective.
Looking at what the GM & coach say they want the team to play like, Lecavalier isn't a great fit, despite his ability to still score goals. The coach had issues fitting him in last season, which makes me concerned he will have trouble in 2014-15

Schenn needs another year of evaluation at 2nd line center IMO. A 22 yo who was average there isnt the worst thing. However he does need to take a bigger step this year and hit the 50-55 pt mark.
I say play vinny at 4C playing around 12-15 mins with PP time. I think the d burden on coots will be heavy once again this year, I don't see a way around that. But I'm also for keeping Laughton in Allentown for the majority of the year at least
Umberger-giroux-voracek
Raffl-schenn-simmonds
Akeson-couturier-read
Ryan carter-vinny-Bellemare
Sign Ryan carter a solid 4th line option

(Vinny/Schenn)-Giroux-Voracek
Read-(Schenn/Vinny)-Simmonds

No way do you put Simmonds on 3rd line. If anything... Move him up with Giroux and slide Voracek down to help Schenn. |

For how much longer? My problem with the VL contract is the combination of the cap hit and length of contract (4 more years), with the obligatory NMC/NTC thing being the extra bit of relish on the poop sandwich.

I say he has atleast 2-3 years. I dont think he is washed up. He broke his (frank)ing back christ sake... and played thru it!!! I would love to see how anyone would skate well with a fractured vertebrae |

First back injury and it was'nt a LeClair back issue. I think he will bounce back just fine. |

I would put Read on the top line with Giroux and Voracek. Read is the Flyers best two-way wing by a wide margin, and he can score. I think Read playing with two dynamic playmakers could turn him into a 30 goal scorer easily. Also being Giroux's line plays against other top lines, would be nice to have a solid defender up front like Read. |

They need a bigger winger than Read on that line. They would literally have no physical presence |
