Well, it looks like Frolik will be traded, don't it? |
|

Still wouldn't be surprised if they sign him to a long-term deal in the new year before the trade deadline but I was surprised they didn't get it done now. And considering that he was willing to sign for $3.3M, if you roll that as the first year in a 5 year deal, you could be paying him very close to what he'd make on the open market in the final years and still not have a fairly reasonable AAV. If there's genuine interest from both sides, this seems like a deal they should have got done. |

Yes everyone that signs a 1 year deal must get traded. |

Frolik may be traded, sure, but Kane or any other "core" players will not. Not by this gm anyway. If Chevy has proven anything in his time, its that he's a chickensh!t gm, afraid to make a big deal. |

This deal both confused and saddened me. What's the fear of arbitration if he ends up signing a one year deal anyway? All this deal shows is hat neither side wants to commit to the other in anyway shape or form. When you've just negotiated for 4 months to come up with this deal, what makes you think frolic is resigned long term? My only guess is rumblings of pavelec being replaced and frolik and his agent trying to stand up for pavs by playing hard ball with Chevy. I know I wouldn't support a boss that wanted to toss aside my childhood buddy, even if it was the right thing to do. |

Could be the core is locked up right now long term.....he may not have wanted another long contract to leave room for Lowry, Komaschuk, Petan or Lipon in the top 9 in the next year or two.
Also if got 3.3 for one year....he'd want 5 per for a 5 year deal. Pretty steep for a 15 goal scorer. |

True he only scored 15 but he has scored over 20, twice. Plus what he does defensively and for possession is better than anyone else on the team. He is far and away their best back checker. He's second only to buff in takeaways at 53 which is 15 more than 3rd place Bryan little at 38. Frolik is exactly the player the jets need to hang on to and I really hope they do. |

35-45pt players are getting around 3m right now so maybe Frolik hopes to have a big year to see a big payday. Guys like Frolik aren't necessarily hard to come by so signing him long term wouldn't really benefit Winnipeg. |

So far it's not looking good in Winnipeg that's for sure....
Hopefully Scheifele and Trouba will become stars... |

Been talking before trade dead line. I inquired with a source too and heard that rumour was not correct.

There's been around 20 players scheduled for arbitration and almost all settle just before the hearing and the majority are one year deals with a few notable exceptions. I don't see this as anything out of the ordinary and nothing to get excited about. |

Only 1 year contract for possession man Frolik but 3 year term for below replacement quality Thorburn who is among the worst 4th liners in the league. Pavlec blessed as starting goaltender for next season. What a depressing summer Chevy |

No one loves us because we have a do nothing GM. Last year I said we had the worst coach in the league and boom he's gone! This year I say we have the worst GM in the league and hopefully he is gone as well!
Chevy only likes former Thrashers who for all intents and purposes would not get the same country club atmosphere Chevy has created for them here in Winnipeg. Chevy is a joke. |

The shine of the Jets returning to Winnipeg has faded and now Chevy really needs to build the team from the ground up. Right now the Jets have some decent prospects, but that won't help for another 2-3 years. The Jets need to ice a team with the best players they can get which unfortunately won't be the top end UFAs. Guys like Frolik are the ones Chevy should be locking up to allow their prospects time to develop. Is Frolik worth a 4-5 year deal at $4.5 million (ish)? Maybe not on some teams but he's worth it to the Jets. If Frolik walks in 2015 it will be difficult for the Jets to replace him. |
