Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Giroux, Draft Re-Entries and More - bmeltzer
That's pretty hard to believe. Giroux not even being mentioned on that list! To start a team. I would clearly take G over a lot of those guys.
I can see Ovie not being there as he is truly one dimensional. Then again it is only a small panel of NHL personal. The actual players know what he can do as he was voted a Lindsey award finalist.

Claude Giroux and Erik Karlsson not getting votes is a joke, but it shows the flawed mindset of NHL execs pretty well - basically they just try to copy teams that win, and usually do a poor job of it. No other reason for Malkin to be at the bottom of that list, either.

The biggest highlights of his career in the Flyers organization were being a key part of the Phantoms' 2007-08 Calder Cup championship team
I think you meant the 1997-98 Calder Cup championship team.... |

LOL
Bill, do you think this is a flaw in NHL execs mindset or ours? Do we over rate Giroux in their minds?

I don't put too much stock on those little GM polls. |

I'm stunned deplore scored that many goals with Nashville. He probably led the team?
I'm not shocked with the Giroux thing. I didnt see keith or subban on there both Norris winners. |

I was surprised Stamkos and Malkin were near the bottom. I'd probably have Stamkos number one on my list. |

Delmore could definitely skate and fire the puck, which is great, but for whatever reason, it never translated for him into being a good defenseman at the NHL level. |

also suprised at Datsyuk is on the list given his age, also who would ever build a team around a goaltender, any team that was starting from scratch would never be good enough quick enough to cash in on that goalies abilities. Further proof that these people pooled don't have a clue |

Stamkos is a fantastic young goal scorer. But when you factor in everything in their games, I'd definitely take Crosby and Toews over him. |

The G thing is much to do about nothing IMHO. Even if you surveyed our fans the votes would be all over the place. What matters is that Philly has a heck of a player that gives them a chance to win the SC (obviously with good supporting players).
Delmore! More like Del-less. He was a good whipping boy for us fans and that's about it. Now Randy Jones |

Both his positioning and decision making were awful in the defensive zone. |

I can't say I'm overly shocked about not seeing Giroux on this list. I mean picking 5 players out of all the NHL players is a hard task, given all 30 teams have at least 2 star players to choose from (some more, some less). So you're picking 5 players out of 60 very good players, not easy to do. Three players that I think of off the bat are Toes, Stamkos, and Crosby. |

If I'm going to start a franchise from scratch, I want to begin by building around a star player under 25. With that in mind I would likely go with either OEL or MacKinnon, but if you ask me a year from now, it might be McDavid. |

Drew Doughty, Alex Pietrangelo, John Tavares, and Tyler Seguin would be my best of the under twenty-five group. |

I'd be fine with Doughty, Pietrangelo and JT, not so much on Seguin. He's an excellent player, but I think he's not quite at the level of the other 3. |

It's a flawed study. If you want to show the top 10, then have each person write out their top 10 list. I think most of them would have a hard time keeping G off of their top 10 list. |

If Crosby didn't have his injury history, he'd definitely be the clear cut number one for me. Even though he won the Hart this year, I still feel like what he did this year was really under appreciated. As much as I hate the guy, he's a hell of a player and the best in the game. |
