This article is crazy. Myers had one great offensive year as a rookie (He led the NHL in giveaways that season) and hasn't matched it and 4 years have passed. Subban has won a Norris, had multiple great seasons, and was a horse leading his team to the conf. finals.
Subban is worth every penny. And I hate Montreal and wanted the Leafs to trade for Myers. |

We should always remember that $5+ for Myers can't be considered a bad contract knowing that Jeff Finger was once given $4 mill. |

You can play that game for any NHL player. Finger was signed as a UFA by an old crazy man. |

Way too much for this defenseman! Sure he won an Olympic Gold........sitting on the bench..........and in line for Captain of the Canadiens, are you crazy! He exudes none of the virtues of a Captain. Montreal out themselves in a chokehold with this contract for years to come. |

Chara led the league in giveaways before.
In fact Doughty was close to the top of the league this season.
You obviously missed the entire point of the blog.
If Subban is a franchise D-man making 9 million, then if Myers stays at his current level (a solid #2 trending upwards) then 5.5 mil per isn't bad at all |

So Montreal should have not paid him and lost him? Would that make them better? |

The cap is going up, so of course 5.5 million doesn't look as bad as it once did. |

ummm...that's what I said...I also said that subbans contract ups the ante to the point where two years down the road a #2/3 defenseman will probably be getting around $5m/yr...which imo, is where myers projects out...at least |

GMs seem to fall for the representations made by Agents who push the most optimistic of projections for their players. Many GMs are ex-players who should be taking more advice from their own lawyers to counter the propaganda of Agents. |

IMO PK is the second best point scoring D man, behind Karlsson
what he brings to the PP is unreal
I am not sure he is worth 8 mil per though, let alone 9

Once Toews Kane got 10.5, that upped what stars pl;ayers will get. Of course he's worth that. |

disagree
to jump from 7 mil to 9 mil for a d man is a huge leap
so what does stamkos get, 12 mil? |

Why not? The NHL is the only league where star players are getting less than they did a decade ago. |

and for good reason, the league was in financial chaos
the league salary is going up too fast again, and in 5 years could be right back where it was in 04-05

Well it's going up because revenue is. This is the deal both sides agreed to.
I see the big problem being the Orpik's making 5.5 million, not PK making 9 million. |

Mike - i see what you are trying to say in this article. But it does come across as comparing the two defensemen!
I get it Myers is 3/4 million less than Subban? Should be, Subban is a true #1
They both bring an entirely different game to the rink - Myers will be solid 3/4 defensemen, Subban #1PP defenseman, plays both ends of the rink as a D, leadership along with Doughty & Karlsson. Myers name should not be said in the same sentence with these #1 D-Men. |

I project the cap to rise to 74 for the 15-16 season and then settling in at 80 over the next 4-5 years
9m for subban won't hurt over the long term
What would he have gotten as a ufa in 3 years time if he had signed that 5x5 contract 2 years ago
He would gave easily received 11m in 3 years on an 8 year deal |
