At this point, I just wish for Kimmo to be healthy. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Timonen, Quick Hits - bmeltzer
We are all pulling for Timonen to have a healthy life. At this point, I have already moved past him being in the line up and seems you have too Bill. If anyone gets a tweet or update from yesterdays meeting with the doctors, could you please post it on here today? Thank you.
Also, I miss Kim Johnson and his R handed two way play. Never understood why we let him go for next to nothing.
Chalk up one person that would watch a movie about Pelle if it is made.
Watching the highlights from this years Ranger's PO series I will miss Hartnell's physical play badly next season. As you point out, not his terrible penalties or average at best defensive game. Unfortunately I will need to try very hard to not compare RJ to Hartnell next season as it is not fair to the player (he had no choice in the trade directly). I have a feeling others will need to do the same and just let the player play his game. That said, I think this team lacks grit on the first two lines with the departure of Hartnell and I don't see any solution. |

I think at this point, given what's been reported, Timonen should focus on his future and ensuring he'll be there for his family for many years. It is awful that a guy like Kimmo, an out and out warrior, may well not get to retire on his own terms.
To touch on the other topics, the Hartnell move will improve discipline. I'm one of those who mentioned his good possession numbers, and he did maintain them even away from Giroux and Voracek. That said, I still see the addition of Umberger as a lateral move, despite his less than stellar possession stats.
I think the addition of Umberger will certainly help in penalties, but also in disciplined play within the system. Hartnell's lack of discipline wasn't exclusive to taking penalties. I doubt we'll see as many plays where we're cursing Umberger for making a dumb pass or other play that is a guy being undisciplined in terms of his role in the system.
Congrats on the movie deal. Pelle's story is compelling and the book you and Mr Tynander wrote is a fantastic read.

I will miss the grit that Hartnell provided and I hope whoever plays his position can also bring some edge to that line. We still have Simmonds on the 2nd line that can play a physical game. But I understand what you are saying and I just hope if Schenn ( if chosen to play LW) can be more aggressive. I would have liked to have seen a " Evander Kane" though!!!

It will certainly be a shame if this is how it ends for him hockey-wise, but he really does have to look to the long term.
And another congratulations to Bill on the rights sale. I hope it pans out and a movie gets made.

hmmm...really?! I could have sworn but you are right and I even moved away from the 'high' state of Colorado, so I don't have that as an excuse.
I am still burned he didn't resign here and left for Minny. Nothing from that Lindros trade to the NYR really panned out much. |

Grit... That's why I was slightly intrigued about Ryan Malone. 6'4"/224lbs, with 67 PIM (not as bad as Hartnell's 103 PIM).

DARE I say I don't care about the drug issue. He will be put into a program and be a good boy going forward (at least I hope). As for sucking, yes, he would need a serious comeback season without injuries and that might be asking too much. A try out wouldn't hurt though IMHO. |

But, "few"... Last year he sucked... The year before was the short year, where he only played 24 games - I'll give him a break on that year. Prior to that he was fine - you could count on roughly 20 goals / 40 pts. Maybe he just needs a change of local to get out of FLA near all the coke. |

Congratulations on the movie rights Bill!!!
As for Timmonen thats a real bummer. Flyer defensemen seem to go out rather rough.
Im still excited for the season. Looking forward to Delzotto in O&B, McDonald showed us he's a good pound for pound Dman and Coburn has been a horse so the Blueline will be fine, not elite but not Ahl level either.
Berube gets a full offseason and camp to mold these guys into his system. Let's not forget about the fact that we have a bonafide stud goalie now. If the team can get better at 5 on 5 and back check effectively they should be a force to reckon with.
Only thing i dont like seeing or gearing rather is this talk about schenn to wing. He has shown nothing other than he's a center. The flyers gave up a lot to get him dont see the need to make him play out of position so an aging ver can get comfortable. Vinny just doesnt fit period. Move him, not the future. At this point is move him for future considerations.
Back to MDZ Im impressed hextall only gave him a one year deal. Past MO of the front office sould have been massive overpayment. |

It seems Vinny can't even be given away, that teams want us to retain salary and maybe even throw something in to sweeten the deal. Not an easy situation to fix. |

In my opinion, playing Schenn at Wing isn't playing him out of position. I think he's better suited to playing the Wing. Coupled with the fact that the Flyers have some spots on at LW, and Leavalier needs to play at Center, I think it only makes sense to play Schenn at LW. We'll see what happens. I agree that Lecavalier is not the future, but for now, I think that's the best move. |

I am hoping Schenn works well on the top line which I think he can. Also I hope Vinny flourishes playing center with maybe Simmonds and whoever is on the other wing. If a team loses a center early then hopefully some market for Vinny can be made and we can deal him then.
I have liked the comments I have read from Berube and Hextall. I know people question them because Vinny has a lot of cashe compared to what Berube has as a coach but I like that berube talked to him about remaking his game a little for the good of the team. I think it also sends the message to prospect or younger players that its either commit to the system and team or your ice time or maybe spot will go to someone else.
Just my thoughts |
