Marc Methot plus a prospect for Joe Thornton. Room for Pageau will get even more slim. |

Jesus your defence would be hurting if they did that |

Interesting what a year can do. This time last year the Pag hype was through the roof thanks to his strong post-season play against a Habs team that lacked any direction. Once reality set it, it became clear Pag is just another middle of the pack prospect. He did not light the AHL on fire last year. I think playing a full year in the AHL with no NHL expectations may help him, but we have an abundance of 2nd and 3rd line centres in this organization, he could easily be the odd man out. |

Yeah that would hurt Ottawa more then help them. |

pageau will get 40 NHL games based on injuries alone - he can play wing or Center on any line - he's got the O to play top 6 as a sub and the smarts and speed to play bottom 6 and he can PK.
Our strength this year is our depth and EK - Pageau's a big part of that.
Reminds me of Vermette, can play a checking or offensive roll, kill penalties and PP, and a ton of speed.
Anybody remember when Vermette got playoff games over Spezza and he assisted on the Fisher OT goal - Pageau has that same ability |

The players will sort out whom plays were,as long as management really sticks to the best players play rule .Unlike last season ,there might be a vet or two moved to make room |

Either Methot or Wiercioche are likely headed out of town. Murray does not like to pay shut down Dmen more than $4m. My guess is Methot is asking $5m. And a long term deal. The ask is likely way more than Murray thinks a shut down guy is worth.
I would like to see them resign Methot. But, it is not going to happen.
Thornton playing with Michalek and Ryan would be fine.
It would leave Turris and MacArthur together (probably with Stone). They can do the most damage out of the second slot. I like Zibanejad to do another year at #3.
I think the Sens will make the playoffs this year. But I think people place way too much importance on the playoffs as a measure of progress. But, if they bring in Thornton they are looking to do a lot more than just make the playoffs. |

Doesn't Thorton fit into your theory of a player being too old and regressing? |

Thornton is still a heck of a player really, but don't think he's someone Ottawa would be interested in and needs. |

Ottawa isnt a fit .We are a very young team trying to still figure out whom is going to play where still. No way would he waive to play here ,so the point is as moot as it gets imho

They got some youth back in the spezza deal but they took a hit in the Ryan trade not sure if it evened out but I wouldn't be giving up more youth for older players when they apparently have an eternal budget young cheap talent is valuable and they won't be ready for a cup in the window Thornton has or would give them |

Absolutely. Would not be a huge fan of the deal. Reacting more to my belief that Methot is headed out of town and which contending teams need a shut down D man. Also the rumors about Thorton to Ottawa have been floating around all summer. |

I very curious of this franking debacle. I'm talking about this whole pot roast of average players taking up roster spots. What's the end goal of all this? I don't want to see the Senators become a crappier version of the Devils. |

That makes more sense, coming from you.
I wouldn't be a fan of the deal either. I think it should be priority to sign Methot. He is the only experienced guy who can still play competently on our back end. If Methot leaves we have a very, very young blue line and Chris Phillips. I doubt Thorton gets dealt, especially to a rebuilding team. |

Doubt it. I'd expect them to finish with more points with Thornton in the lineup over Methot. I'm sure Yost agrees. |

Yeah it's not even close.
Thornton's contract and dead year(s) on the back-end are tricky but he obviously is still one of the best centers in the league, even at his age. |

Lol funny guy I mean you have karlsson and as it stands today Ryan for one more year who do you have coming up on defence ? And you still have a pretty good question mark in net i am more then happy with the defensive prospects we have working their way into the nhl right now and down the road and we have from as far as I can tell a really good goalie and I would take being set up on the back end in net and on d every day of the week over a few decent forward prospects but hey I must like boring hockey right |

Hmm... an aging canadian center that puts up big points, who underwhelms in the playofs, wears the C (briefly) then is traded ..... some reason I'm getting Deja Vu

If Ottawa wants Pageau to play they can always move Zibby to the wing
Mac - Turris - Ryan
9MM-Legwand - Chiasson
Greening Smith - Neil
Zibby - Pageau - Stone
All respectable lines - best 4th line in the NHL - is almost a decent 2nd line |

1) Great post Yost. I like how the topics are diverse and still engaging enough to warrant a write up.
2) 6 players in the top 80 were born in before 1982. That means 6 players were over the age of 31 or over. Jumbo led the way... Marleau same spot. While St. Louis, Iginla, Jagr, Elias are still very effective, let's face it, a 35 year old star like Jumbo isn't coming to a rebuilding team. It'd be like LA shipping Kopitar for Lazar, Puempel, and a 1st.
3) J.G. Pageau, Mark Stone, Alex Chaisson, Mike Hoffman, Matt Puempel, Curtis Lazar - - all these players haven't played a full season with the Sens and I wouldn't be surprised with any of them playing this season. I think the Sens have to (and will) make a trade early in the season. Maybe trade a few forwards and a Dman for a top 4 Dman. Right now I'd trade Cowen over Weircioch. Cowen (atm) doesn't seem to me like a guy that will reach his potential |

Zibanejad has to play in the top 9; probably 2nd line center. He's going to take a big step forward. Good 3rd line (will be the 4th line). Interesting to see where Lazar plays, I think Legwand might move over to LW if Lazar comes up:
Michalek - Zibanejad - Ryan / Stone
MacArthur - Turris - Stone / Ryan
Legwand - Lazar - Chiasson
Greening - Smith - Neil
but what about hoffman, condra..... sens have to make a deal lol

Hoffman will be in Buffalo next season - Tim Murray will claim him.
It would be good to see if he gets off to hot start or has some chemistry with Zibby or Legwand if he can have a 40 point season.
Our depth take a hit of he gets claimed off of waivers |
