A Colombus team finishing second with an unsigned Johansen is a ballsy prediction - WayneY
I'm assuming that gets done. You're right, though. |

I picked Pittsburgh and explained the prediction. Why the heck would I mention him? I didn't mention anyone off NJ, PHI or anyone else in the division, either. |

I think New Jersey will shock some teams this season and end up finishing third. I have Pittsburgh, Columbus, NJ, New York Rangers, New York Islanders (all five in playoffs with Atlantic sending three this season) followed by Philly, Washington, and the worst team in the league Carolina.
I only see Boston Tampa and Montreal making it out of the Atlantic this season. I'm not sold on Detroit this season. |

I guess if you like an out of shape defenseman who can't play in his own end |

In my opinion this is the toughest division to predict. I think PIT and NYR will be the top two. I can see CBJ, NJD, NYI, PHI, or WSH finishing anywhere between 3rd and 7th. I agree with most that CAR will finish last, but maybe they'll surprise some people as well. |

As long as Crosby is on the Penguins they will be the top pick to win the division in every preseason prediction piece.
Didn't even have to read this to know that was the choice. |

I put you guys in the same situation as the Devils and Columbus. Could surprise people. I have to go with the teams with the experience though for my top 3. Pitt, Rangers, Philly. Devils,Columbus, Islanders could all be anywhere from 4th-6th. |

It's hysterical, no need to worry about someone else's opinion. It's an entertainment piece. |

1. Penguins - Lots of changes, still lack some depth, but still have #87 and #71.
2. Rangers - some major attrition but still have the King, solid D and speed up front.
3. Isles - best forward depth in the division and credible goaltending overcome thin D.
4. Capitals - the Caps made some nice moves over the summer. Thin up front though.
5. Jackets - Johansen holdout hurts; still like them for the 2nd wildcard.
6. Devils - still look like a team that narrowly misses the playoffs.
7. Flyers - already looked like a lesser team than last year even before losing Kimmo.
8. Canes - did nothing in the offseason and now J Staal is in crutches. Ouch. |

I think the Pens are shown a ton of favoritism throughout the hockey world, but they really are great in the regular season year after year. As long as Crosby and Malkin are healthy, it is hard to pick against them. |

After two mostly lousy decades, I can't blame them too much. However, if you put a different uniform (one with neutral connotations) on the Isles' current roster, I think people would rate that hypothetical team a lot higher. |

Think there are more issues than most bring up when breaking down the Penguins this season. |

No doubt, but are any of them greater than the rest of the division? I would argue not. |

Every team has issues, the Pens biggest issues have been injuries the last few years. Hopefully they can stay healthy, even though Crosby and Malkin are banged up already.
