Funny, just last week Berube was talking about the importance of an enforcer and that he would dress Rosehill when the opposing team dressed an enforcer, which I found a bit asinine, because why let an opposing coach's decision on dressing a goon determine your line up choices?
Good for the Flyers to realize that there's no need for a designated fighter that does nothing to deter opposing players from taking liberties with star players and that team toughness is required.
I was surprised Zepp had to go thru waivers. I forgot he played a few years in the AHL & ECHL before going to Germany.
And the Blackhawks signed Carbomb. 1 year, $550K |

Carcillo played last night for them too.

Well, the bottom 6 skill level is better, I dont think thats a debate. If they can play well 2 ways thats key. We shall see how the D by committee ( a #2 D , a # 3 D and 3 #4/5) works out |

I think the outstanding performance by the 4th line vs the caps was a major factor in sending rosehill down, and I say good the flyers. I am really excited to see what that line can do this season. |

I can't tell you how nice it is to finally have a GM that is current with 21st Century ideas, stays true to his philosophy/plan in the face of temptation, and one that is articulate and candid enough to explain his thought process to the media (and fans).
No July 1 splurges, Hartsy gone, Akeson in the lineup, Rosehill out, MDZ in on a value deal, all the kids safely in dev leagues, Ed Snider talking about patience... I'm getting spoiled. |

I just don't want to see Simmonds fight more. I get the whole concept about how the game is changing but Rosehill was a good 13th man to have around. Hey, at least he could skate and he also got this team back into some games last year by taking on the opponents tough guy

Rosehill is a likable guy. But he got torched at even strength. With the defense the Flyers have, we can't afford to routinely send out forwards like him who are total defensive liabilities.
Hextall said that Chris Pronger will be placed on long-term injured reserve ahead of the season, leaving the Flyers with about $55,000 of cap space. Kimmo Timonen will be on the opening night roster and then placed on LTIR, which will push the team's available cap space slightly north of $2 million. Adding Ryan White to the list would make the team's LTIR allowance about $2.5 million.
Placing just Pronger on LTIR puts the payroll at $69,5200,000. To get down to $68,9450,000 you have to also place White on LTIR. |

Simmonds won't have to fight any more than he did before. If the other team is willing to draft a limited enforcer who can't actually play the game the flyer should jump at the opportunity to exploit the other team being short a man rather than dressing and enforcer of their own. |

I completely agree with assigning Rosehill to the A. With the current rules etc, there really is no use for the position. I'm glad hextall has realized this. If they really need a tough guy, then Emery can always be inserted into the game lol |

The better teams in the league realized this a while ago. Detroit, for example uses the philosophy of team toughness. There is no use of carrying a cap hit of 550k for a guy who plays 3 mins and starts staged fights. The most lethal weapon in this team's arsenal is the PP and if a team wants to have a tough guy run around and take penalties, they will pay the price. |

I love the fourth line (I think Jones has earned the place but I like it even with Rinaldo). I truly thought I would never see the day that Philly management said they didn't need a goon. For now, my mind is blown. We will see though when the chips are down if they stick to their guns. Will they make a trade for that D man the team obviously needs by trading youth and picks? Will they put in the goon when rivals do the same? We'll see. |

So far, Hextall has held true to changing the philosophy of the org and I think it's for the better. Draft well and retain the picks and apparently align the team closer to the type of game played today rather than focuse on past strategies for success. |

Agreed. I love hearing Jon Scott say he's going to give Jumbo & Marleau more room to work out there...bullpoop. You're going to bounce your knuckles off some other enforcers head while Steve Ott or Dan Carcillo hits Marleau and laughs at you |

Hextall would only say there's a chance he'll play... and a chance he won't. No one else in the organization is allowed to discuss injuries and even OTR stuff has been a little scarce in camp.
Hexy is insistent that there only be two voices on all team matters in terms of who can be available to be quoted: himself or Berube. Assistant coaches, scouts, etc. are no longer allowed to agree to interviews without prior approval from the GM.
Hexy says that this was Lombardi's policy in LA, and it worked in Ron's opinion.

Pretty neat stuff.... and hilarious to see Boudreau blushing while making an awkward, patronizing doof of himself:
She's 5'11 172... same build as Giroux. |

One side benefit for me is that with more guys being pushed into the AHL, then more players get pushed down to Reading rather than sit. It would be nice to see both development teams get loaded up and be fast, tough as needed and skilled with some size. |

Hextall said they are cap compliant by abut $55K under the cap after putting Pronger on LTIR and carrying 22 players into the season by sending Rosehill to AHL. Said they will have between about $2 to $2.5M after other LTIR moves made.
Brings me back to something Dave Poulin said last year: while Capgeek is always in the right ballpark, there are often small inaccuracies in the publicly available figures. |

Thats cool as long as He and Berube make themselves available enough.
I hope you're still able to talk with some of the scouts just to pick their brains. |

Think he just forgot to tell you about White:

They're -$5.5M over... just Pronger puts them $520k short. |
