Scoop Cooper: Triumph and Tragedy: The Life and Death of Pelle "Gump" Lindbergh
It has been 29 years now since Pelle Lindbergh was taken from us on November 11, 1985. Here are my memories of my friend and his brilliant but all too brief career.

As a veteran who's son is really sick and needs medical help, I also could use some help. The V.A. can't or won't help and my insurance isn't covering anything. My fiance and I are in serious need of any help. Sharing our story or donating would be truly appreciated and be a lifesaver. Thanks to all who served!

thanks for the post, scoop. i envy that you not only knew him, but were also his friend. i'm sure you have many wonderful memories.

he was my idol, my hero, but unfortunately never had the chance to meet pelle. i had the pleasure of seeing him play live several times though. i was 13 when this tragedy occurred, and it profoundly changed me. i was inspired to go to sweden, where i studied, played hockey, attended several hammarby and aik matches, and visited his resting place. i'm grateful for those experiences. i'm also still an active goalie to this day, at age 42 in part because he still inspires me to play.

the hole in my heart will never heal.

Thank you for your very touching and heart felt comments. Gump touched the lives of many people who never met him as well as those who knew him well. He was, of course, a very special goalie but, as you can tell from my blog, a very special human being as well. It has been 29 years now since he left us, but his personality was so vivid to me it is as if I just saw him yesterday.

. Just over 48-hours later, Lindbergh lost control of his beloved Porsche on a rain slicked road following a team party and hit a stone wall less than a mile from the Flyers' practice rink in Voorhees, New Jersey. His career and life both came to sudden and premature ends -- although his heart continued to beat in the chest of another in whom it was transplanted a short while later.

C'mon, Scoop.

Not mentioning his .24% BAC in the paragraph above is a glaring omission.

And you know it.
