Great list... Except maybe Trotz. I was a huge Trotz fan until this season. The combination of Wsh struggling and Nsh tearing it up are making me wonder if Trotz is a bit overrated. Wsh has the personnel to be a contender in the east and they aren't doing much. Not as surprised by Nsh, getting Rinne back and adding offense but still. Trotz would be right there with Ruff for me |

I am not actually defending Eakins but to say that it is about getting a guy with "some" NHL XP, then why is Van doing so well with a rookie head coach in Willie Desjardin? He had 4 years as an associate coach in Dallas and I don't think that is a deciding factor in success.
Know what is? A full roster of competent NHL players.
Again another year where the defense cannot help this team enough.
I have no issue with Leon on the team, or Arco, but not both.
Goaltending is horrible...still? again? Cannot decide which is which.
Locker room problems? No leadership? I thought we were over this after Souray.
I have no real issue with MacT...must be near impossible to get guys of quality to come. I don't think that he has not been trying but to start behind the 8ball everytime you come to the table is a terrible position to be in to improve the team. He cannot do it via trade because every GM is looking to screw him over. He cannot do very much in the FA market because every guy that will sign for the Oil wants more than they will in most other markets. There is only so much money to go around.
There is much wrong and a great deal needs to be done....still *sigh*. |

Capuano is too low for a guy who's got his team at the top of the pops now that he has a couple of decent defenceman and a goalchie... same with Hartley...
The Isles and Flames have taken the few top picks they got and built around them by trading pieces strategically here and there. Unlike the Oil who seem to think they can just draft their way out of the basement.
Schultz, Eberle, and maybe a couple of other young players would bring some real veteran pieces they could use to build around Hall and Nuge and Yak... a couple of real dman would be a start. |

Time to make a few changes. Perron or Yakupov to Pittsburgh. |

So I will say I do not watch the oilers nightly, as I am in the East, but when Edmonton got Eakins, he was the premier coach not in the NHL ranks. This guy was known for working with young pros and developing them. What happend to them once they reached the Leafs is a different matter...but when OIlers got him, it was perfect he essentially got a high powered Junior team loaded with lots of parts..it seems to me that the GM has let him down by not addressing defensive needs, but also there must be something going on with attitude..is it possible that with so many #1 picks sharing the same shower, they all feel that they are the man? If that's the case this team is doomed..I picture this team as a talent laden team with a bunch of snot nosed #1 picks all thinking they are not the issue...I think this team needs a no-nonsense GM who will support his coach and start to clean up the babies on the ice...Just my 2 cents from here.. |

Roster isn't very good, but you're letting Eeekins off the hook a bit too easy. He sucks. |

I'm not on the fire Lowe train, but he needs to hold MacT accountable. If Eakins isn't fired Kevin Lowe needs to replace Mac T. If his idea is to replace Mac T with Howson then if I'm Katz I fire Lowe. |

I floated the Idea of Dubinski, Murry and Jenner. Or at least similar value. |

I might go two firsts, a second and Steve Santini for Hall. |

Just spitballing here what about Perron and Fasth for Lupul and Reimer? |

I don't think the Oilers should trade Hall. He isn't the problem. |

Let me guess, Perron and Yakupov for 60 games of Paul Martin and Rob Scuderi. |

I think you need to be on the fire Lowe train. It's the only train out of hell. |

....that is a terrible trade and doesn't help the Oilers out at all.
Toronto is not a good trading partner for Edmonton - the Leafs have the same lacks the Oilers have (just not quite as horrible on the D side). |

Really? He isn't the turnover machine that thinks he can get through 3 players at the Blueline rather than dump it in? |

Eakins is neither the sole issue nor the sole solution.
The goaltending , the defense, the special teams.etc....these are all not the single contributing factor. They are pieces to the disaster that is the Oilers.
I was almost done with a post about hw I would like to see the Oil make changes to help improve the team...I just don't give enough of a flying (frank). |
