Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 11/24/14 @ NYI - bmeltzer
I thought Laughton looked really good the other night. Here we go again with this log jam at Center. G, VLC, Couts, Schenn, BelleMare, Laughton all Centers. I mean it's great being deep down the middle, but... I know we tried to move Vinny this summer but with all of the trade rumors circulating it seems like someone will be gone by the TDL. I was actually really happy with Vinnie's play prior to his injury, but it seems to have trailed off since his return. Sure Laughton will probably be sent back down, but he could make it difficult to do so. |

Schenn is already staying at wing, and Berube has slid Lecavalier to RW to fit in Laughton. Bellemare has loads of international experience on both wings. I doubt that the overabundance changes, as Hextall agrees with the philosophy that it's easier for a center to slide to wing than vice versa.
If Laughton continues to play as he has so far, he's not going anywhere

I've been pleasantly surprised with Laughton...strong physical play, smart with and without the puck, good offensive instincts. I hope he continues to play well and stays with the big club |

He's shown some offensive ability at the AHL, he's been great thus far for the big club. He's been used in all situations throughout his career, so if he stays and plays as he has, he can take on a PK role and maybe even work on the 2nd PP unit. |

Agreed, he reminds me a bit of Ron Sutter. Just a good, solid 2-way center. |

Dare I say he has even made the 18-49-40 line look better. Who would have thought it was possble with those two anchors on his wings. |

Best of luck tonight. I'm going into this game cautiously undecided on the outcome.... You guys have had our number for a while, but this is a brand new team, and have beaten teams that have beaten us often already (Carolina and Pittsburgh). Going to be a fun game, that's for sure. |

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a 6-5 esque score tonight! Similar to our game against Dallas earlier this year, both teams might leave the defense at home. |

Tonight is another opportunity for Akeson to prove he deserves to play. Make something happen to get noticed the way that Scott Laughton has.

Maybe he has some kind of secret defibrillator that has jumpstarted the two corpses back to life |

If the Flyers stay out of the penalty box, it should be a good game. If not, the Chinese fire drill will commence and the pummeling shall ensue |

Not sure why the comparisons occur so frequently, but many times they are misguided. Couturier being the next Jordan Staal is one that comes to mind... |

It's a line that has had success. If they have to keep playing VinnyBurger, hopefully Laughton can continue to pump life into those two corpses, and then you have a "fourth" line that can bring not just energy, but also create chances and opportunities.
I would like to see Laughton and Bellemare assume Umberger's role on special teams. I don't really give a crap about Umberger playing "third" line, but they need to get him off special teams, and they have the guys to allow them to do so. |

Honestly, I hope that Akeson has a decent game tonight and that when VDV is ready to return they sit Umberger. He has been, without a doubt, our worst forward this season. |

Wouldn't they put MDZ and Coburn back together and have Coburn on his usual right side? |
