I do not agree with this. Analytics have done a good job of finding that gaining the offensive zone with posession leads to more scoring chances than dump and chase.

There are times when a dump or chip in makes more sense absolutely, but not at the expense of doing what the Avs are quite good at. Turnovers happen, focusing on minimizing turnovers leads to undesirable outcomes - playing too safe and not generating enough shots an clean zone entries.

I'd rather see this team focus more on shot suppression. Things like gap control, preveting clean zone entries against, and minimizing multi shot chances in their own end. All that is difficult with the quality of defense we have beyond Ej and Barrie, but its more important to build good process and strategy this year in an effort to prepare for next season. Because the playoffs are a dream at this point.
