Schultz keeps playing like that and Hexy will have turned water into wine come the deadline.
I suspect Grossmann will be out for a good while. Maybe some other guys will finally get a fair shake... |

Schultz on a night in night out basis has been our most reliable Dman. You always know what you're getting from him. That should count for something at the deadline. |

I don't know who's wrong here, but you said it was Umberger 4th goal, and broadcasters said 6th goal. Not sure how many he actually has but he's picked up his play as of late. Has been getting a lot more chances and has been a lot more aggressive for sure. |

Yeah he really has, but he's been linked to extension talks w us. I wouldn't mind signing him for a low cost for 2 years. He'd be nice veteran to keep around for next season for any young guys coming up |

Depends on the cost and what they can move out at the TDL.
Someone asked about trading Voracek to Nashville for Jones, 1sts and Fiala last night. I said YES!
I say double YES! because it would secure a much higher pick for us this year with our own pick. Please Voracek, stop winning games. Enough is enough
But really I am happy for the team and fans, such a conundrum.... |

I don't think Voracek gets that return. Wingers don't have the same positional value as a defender or center, which is what Nashville needs. Moving Giroux would get that package and probably more but I know Flyer fans don't want to do that. |

yay! another mini streak coming up to prove they are not as bad as they have been, followed by another inexplicable fall into sub-mediocrity. another 2 points closer to the 15th pick and lost a possible trade asset in the game. hoooo-(frank)ing-ray |

* After the game, Ron Hextall released a statement on Nicklas Grossmann's injury: "We will let - bmeltzer[the media] know tomorrow when it is more definitive."
Better than "probable for Saturday" and then being a no-go. They're learning.

Fair enough, I'd throw in L Schenn.
Or if that doesn't do it...
Yeah, I'd trade G for that package.
Then the 'best player in the world' can be reunited with his biggest fan. |

It was his 4th in the last 10 games of the season, sixth overall. |

The thing is that this team will finish in front of Edm, Car,Buf for sure and most likely in front of NJ and yotes. They are going to pick between 5-9 most likely. I would rather see some players (Read, Schenn et al) get their game back. Loosing is not a good recipe for long term team success.

TOR and CGY are free falling... CAR and ARI are playing much better as of late, too. You've gotta think that EDM's going to trade for a real goalie soon.
Still too hard to tell where they'll end up, with so many moving pieces around them. |

I thought Luke Schenn played a solid game. When he plays simple and finishes checks he is good. When he tries to do too much is when he gets in trouble. When he is out of the lineup we seem to lack any physicality - J35Bacher

well hexy's patience plan will have those guys in their mid 30's by the time our prospects areready for top pairing duty on D..... i guess instead of slow and lumbering D we can win with old and brittle forwards. |

You also have to think Carolina will sell of assets so after the deadline they could fall back.
If I am EDM i would maybe make a play for Ward or maybe Martin Jones in LA. They really just need to get a goalie and then build from there. |

Fair points.
My main point is I don't want the flyers to tank just to tank. |

That's where, I personally, would be willing to part with one of our prospect Dmen in favor of a deal for a centerpiece Dman now or within a year or two. The forwards, as under-productive as they have been this season, outside the first line, really aren't in bad shape. Get rid of Vinny and Umby.. you get their cap.. improve that third line.. maybe trade Read for something... and start moving out the Dmen in favor of our prospects as they are ready. But one thing they will lack, is the Weber.. the Suter.. the Pronger... the Neidermeyer.. etc.. I truly think they need a centerpiece Dman to build around. Once you have one in place, and start adding young guys around him (Morin, Hagg, Sanheim, Alt, Ghost).
I know it's easier said than done, but I don't think a massive blowup is necessary, nor do I think Hextall needs to waste the best years of G's and Jake's best years in "patience"... Sure, it would still take 2 years minimum, but I think it's possible. They just need to stop doing crappy stuff and be smart. Hope Hextall can pull through! |

Luke Schenn > Nik Grossmann - Tomahawk
When Schenn is on top of his game, it's pretty close. Grossmann is far more consistent as a player.

I agree, if a trade for an established top defenseman presents itself, and the cost is within reason, they have to make it. Even if it costs them one of the defense prospects, but only for a legit all situations player. |
