Both options are very low risk moves, but both would also have very little impact. Unless we can move Sutter in one of those deals, I would pass on both.

Ryan Wilson: The Two Best Realistic Trade Options For The Penguins
The Two Best Realistic Trade Options For The Penguins - Ryan_Wilson
Ryan, I know you aren't a fan of answering stuff here, but I want to ask.
Should E Kane have surgery, would he then become a prime target for the Penguins to try and acquire around the Draft? At that time we will know most likely our cap situation for the next season, including the question marks on Martin, Ehrhoff, and Dupuis. |

Damn it, I hate agreeing with bartley... but he's right imo.
only caveat is if they go after someone like tlusty first and then get either of the two mentioned...
But if they are going to trade sutter then a bigger name should be coming back... I'm not saying 1 for 1 but something along the lines of the kane deal mentioned yesterday...

I was just thinking this as well. You have to think they are going to move him when they can. I think this might be the icing on the cake

Both are a massive upgrade to our depth... however, Getting Berg would almost require us to get a new 3rd line center (Winnik for argument sake), since the cap space would certainly mean Sutter was shipped out for him. We might have to overpay for a 3rd line center after a solid trade. |

Isn't that the paper that said Crosby got arrested over the summer when he was about 3000 miles away? If so... that holds no water |

Is he a ufa? Bc that's what I don't want... we don't have a 1st so I don't ant to trade sutter to someone who will walk in summer when the pens can still use him until a good trade comes around...
Anyway they would do spaling for berg? |

Both are UFA after this season... so that is a downside. Spaling for Berg I think should fit in our cap space, but would not appease Bartley. |

Same old, same old.
Pens have two world class talents. They have a couple of other good players. But, for the most part, this is an AHL roster on the 3rd and 4th lines. Talking about players like Winnik is clear evidence that some believe that upgrading the AHL quality of lines 3 and 4 might somehow make a difference.
Hard reality is the Pens are as good as most teams in the league because of their top talent. It allows them to compete tough every night of the regular season. But their competitiveness has declined since their Cup win.
It is naive to think that you can succeed in the playoffs going head to head against a good four line team. |

Kunitz-Geno-Comeau
Bergenheim-Winnik-Spaling
Downie-Lapierre-Adams/Arcobello/Rust/Farnham
I like the way the last grouping looks. Top lines are the scoring lines, bottom 6 still very capable of scoring while being a female dog to play against while being defensively responsible and driving possession. Lets face it, the two weak links are 19 and 16. Those + deals could mean a few draft picks or maybe another depth player or prospect back in the deals. |

Lol most likely.. Although this is Kane in his teams city.. with all that's left of his fans yesterday. Basically after what happened in the past few days plus this that will kill most of his fans there. |

While I would agree with you in the past 5 seasons, our bottom 6 is leagues above what it has been. When healthy, there are no "AHL players" on the bottom 6 other than Adams, who seems to never leave |

I believe the Penguins will have a better lineup coming up next season, with a lot more flexibility cap wise than we are used to having. But, we also want to win now, and upgrades like this should make us a legit cup favorite with a real bottom 6. Not just a "better than we've had in 5 years" bottom 6. |

Move Sutter for picks to clear some cap space
Use picks/B level prospects to get Bergenheim and Winnik
Perron-Crosby-Hornqvist
Kunitz-Malkin-Bennett
Bergenheim-Spaling-Comeau
Winnik-Lappiere-Downie
4 very solid lines and an actual bottom 6 that could contribute |

I don't see Bennett in the top 6, especially with Comeau near returning and Beau in a HORRID slump. More likely he gets packaged in one of the trades if they occur.

I honestly think that the writing is on the wall with BB, im pretty sure he is done as a Penguin; the management has soured on him pretty quickly. |

Agreed. I feel like we will sign a 3mil a year dman in the off season to replace both Martin and Hoff. That would open up 7 million to resign BB (cheap) Downie (1.5?) Comeau (1.75-2) that leaves us with around 4 million to either resign Berg and Winnik (trades pending) or land some more depth. The thing we can't do next season, is trade draft picks. Deadline deal next year of Sutter leaving if he doesn't now should net us some picks as well. Of course that would be if we have Sundqvist to replace him. Another thing that should really help our depth is Kapanen next year also. Next year we will be in a great spot. This year, go for the home run and grab Winnik and Bergenheim. |

That's too late, if we don't win the Cup this season or at least make the Final, this team will be totally destroyed, and I think that will include Malkin leaving town. |

We will trade or publicly execute Sutter. So all will be good, happy?

Comeau (1.75-2) that leaves us with around 4 million to either resign Berg and Winnik (trades pending) or land some more depth. The thing we can't do next season, is trade draft picks. I don't see us signing a free agent Dman honestly. Next season should return Letang, Maatta, Despres, Scuds, and Bortuzzo. If we are not confident enough in having 2 of our 3 "good" rookie Dmen playing next season (I don't think Bort will be up all the time), then we are a failure of an organization with those draft picks.
So, now we got 10 million to resign Bennett (if he even is still here), Downie and Comeau should be around 3 million combined like you said. But now we have 6 mil to keep Berg and Winnik (or whoever is or might have been obtained). Lets say we only keep Winnik. With the possible cap increase, that should bump us to over 5 mil.... and now we can land E Kane ^_^
But yeah, you were pretty spot on for most in how I am viewing this. |
