If you hurt yourself taking a minimal stride like Mason did, Then it's idiocy that the Flyers keep sending him back out there to keep getting injured. SHUT HIM DOWN for a month or more.

Along with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek, Mason has become an indispensable part of the Flyers' short-term and long-term vision for the club. No matter how well he's been playing, Mason is too important to this team to simply keep deferring to his competitive instincts above common sense. Actually, he's been playing so well that it's even more imperative to make sure he has the best possible chance to remain healthy for the long haul.

Let's hope Flyers management favors long-term vs short-term with Mason. Let him heal, figure out what's wrong, get it sorted, go from there.

I'm warming up to the idea of shutting Mason down for the year.

Do you suppose it's part of their culture that is immutable without blowing up the entire organizational structure to never ever think long-term when it comes to injuries?

Is mason turning into an injury prone goalie?

I fully believe that this is true.

"If he says he's ready to play we're going to put him out there."

Damn caution.

SIT HIM!! For crying out loud.. people(including Flyers management) need to come to terms with the fact that the Flyers are NOT winning the cup this season. Yes, you still need to "try" and not "tank". But you also need to be in reality... the reality where Mason is hurt and can't heal.. the reality where continuing to put him out there is only going to do more damage now, and in the future.

SHUT HIM DOWN and let him heal.. jeez...

If they keep putting him out there and not allowing him to properly heal, yes.

If they shut Mason down or he misses a large chunk of time, I would like them to trade for or sign a 3rd depth goalie in case Zepp or Emery get hurt. Like Hextall said, Stolarz isn't quite ready so insurance would be a plus.

That trade truly did help lift a roster from an inconsistent group of non-playoff qualifiers to a team at least in the Stanley cup contender conversation. In some ways, the team before that trade resembles today's team - a team that needs to fire on all cylinders to regularly win games. Is there another franchise-changing trade looming? Let's hope so. Either way, this rebuild is necessary.

I like the fact that I can still say the Flyers have Chris Pronger. It's nice having a future HOF defenseman on the team. I think we all should enjoy while it lasts.

Lats night's injury looked like it could have happened when he walked out to the letterbox.
