James Tanner: Finishing Last Possible, Unlikely for Coyotes
It's not impossible, it just probably won't happen. - James_Tanner
Good blog. Plenty of Sabres fans, see it as the exact opposite. (not myself) They do not believe Arizona will get another point all year, which like you stated, i find hard to believe. |

It's basically a toss up, same games remaining with a 2 pt separation. Still, I am hoping you are right |

Phoenix just started its rebuild. It would piss me off to see them win the draft lottery bcz buffalo has been rebuilding for 3 years now. |

Which makes it even more obvious they are tanking for a specific player. |

Less than a toss up though because of schedule strength and the tie-breaker. If Arizona wins one game it's like 99% Buffalo wins. But right now, it's still probably really highly in Buffalo's favor just because of the odds that they'd win 4 of 7 AND lose one in OT are just so unlikely. |

And Buffalo isnt? Dont act like this wasn't the plan for Buffalo. Murray eve said so himself before last years draft. |

You can't say that. Arizona came into the year expecting to compete for a Playoff spot, but things went south really fast. I wrote a million times last year that they should have been tearing it down then and if they had of listened, they could have picked much higher than 12th last year at least. |

Just did. I don't think it's fair BUF has been getting crap just because some fans decided to cheer for AZ goals, claiming were tanking on purpose, when other teams are doing the same exact thing. |

The difference is Buffalo had no intent of being a good team this year while Arizona, Edmonton, and Toronto all had playoff aspirations. |

Food for thought!
2014 - last place Buffalo, but second last Florida won the lottery.
2013 - last place Florida, but second last Colorado won the lottery.
2012 - last place Columbus, but second last Edmonton won the lottery.
2011 - last place Edmonton, but eighth last NJ won the lottery.
The past four years the last place team hasn't won the lottery, but, the second last has won 75% of the time??? Stay where you're at!! |

The reason why dead last is so important is it guarantees you McDavid or Eichel. There is no chance the NHL lottery shenanigans ruins it for you. |

I don't either. I am openly cheering for AZ and TOR to lose and I find people who find that offensive to be ridiculous. |

I agree with that mostly but it is statistically dubious to take into account results that have already occurred. Just because the roulette wheel has landed on red 10 times in a row, it doesn't make the next spin more likely to be black.
Just looking at the schedules, I don't see the Sabres getting 3 more points than the Yotes the rest of the way. There's no deader meat in the NHL in April than a team in the Sharks' position-- about to be eliminated after starting the season with Cup expectations. THEY might not win another game this season. |

Well there is an 80% chance that last doesn't win lottery. The point is last guarantees you at least Eichel. |

You are technically correct about games that already occured, but lets travel back a week. I tell you that the Sabres have to win four of seven and get at least one OT loss in there too, and ask you to give me odds.
Pretty sure you'd say 0. |

Don't hate the player, hate the game type deal. Sports are designed where if you aren't going to win it all complete failure is your best option.
It can never be changed though as much as people want it to because teams at the bottom would have very little chance of improving.

I'd rather 100% chance of McEichel than 25% at neither. |

Some people don't realize you're still rooting for your team, just longer-term. |
