They need all the help they can get. Probably should hold onto them if true. |

Mantha has struggled this season, has looked like he isn't trying hard enough.

He's the not first kid to have that happen. Some of the high skill guys haven't really ever faced adversity and don't know how to handle it. Some manage to turn it back around and put in the time and effort needed to up their game at the next level. Others end up just wallowing and don't ever end up improving. Only time will tell what Mantha ends up doing. |

May just be me but seems the biger bodied guys hit the wall like he did. I think the guys are just bigger earlier and get by with size and others catch up to them much faster.
Anyone see the Mem cup Final great game |

from kris baker's 2013 mock draft:
#22 CALGARY (from St. Louis) – Anthony Mantha
RW, 6’4”, 190 lbs. (Val-d’Or, QMJHL)
Mantha, a pure goal scorer with good size and skating, blinks on the radar as the Flames keep stockpiling big bodies to compete in the West. A 50-goal scorer in the QMJHL, Mantha’s ability to get up and down while being tough to knock off the puck could turn into a major asset once his two-way consistency and work ethic comes around.

I'd rather have Pysyk than Mantha.
Especially if Gorges plays the way he did last season |

Seems work ethic is something that's always been an issue. |

keep seeing that brought up...and how Nolan sucked...
major point of last season: had this team played any better, had been coached any better or had the coach been given better players, we'd be up in arms about how this organization totally blew it in the mceichel sweepstakes

Unless TM feels we have too many D prospects and not enough forwards in the pipeline, i'd pass. we have enough "project players" to work on. If Detroit is starting to question the development of a player, I would question it too.
I'd prefer to see TM trade away any combination of players for someone who can join the team right now. if he's looking to trade a prospect for a prospect, then is must be due to a lack of players in a specific position.

I'm wondering how many games Gorges actually played NOT injured. Seemed he was fighting though an injury most of the games he played. |

Didn't Georges reveal that he had a nagging injury most of last season? Or am I thinking of someone else?
And yes. True.

I agree with 89 as usual.
Defense is the toughest group to collect and develop. When we traded Myers, we did get Bogo in return but Pysk is just too smooth, he has actually played in the NHL and not just played, he was VERY GOOD!
Mantha hasn't played an NHL game, if we were to entertain moving an NHL ready D-Man for a prospect, there would NEED to be more coming back than an impressive mid level 1st Rd pick who has struggled to show 110% effort in his first pro season.
I'm by no means suggesting he won't be a solid player, but until he gets past his year long issues, so noted by his employer, and then plays and plays well in the NHL, he is not near the VALUE of Mark Pysk! |

if not mistaken, murray's after players in a specific age-range this season...wanna say that 24-25 seems to be the ceiling...mantha will be 21 in September, which, for me, is right in Murray's wheel house |

NOt to mention hes not an offensive D man so if people are looking for points they are not looking in the right place. |

Absolutely.
However, that didn't stop me from wanting to see players show they can actually play. Larsson's and Ristolainen's development toward the end was extremely fun to watch. Gionta tore it up too, which you want to see from your veteran and captain.
Gorges wasn't Weber bad. But you need a steadying presence on defense, and that's why you keep Pysyk IMO.
edit: Forgot he was playing injured. We'll see what he brings next season I guess. |

I don't think they're questioning his development so much as saying what aspects of his game they'd like to see him improve on. If we could package up some picks or something to get him, I'd be fine with that, but I'm in no way moving Pysyk for him. At all. Ever.
As a matter of fact, I mentioned this over a week ago, but I'd have to be blown away at what we're getting in return for Pysyk to not have a problem with moving him. |
