People are blowing this way out of proportion... he listed Montreal and Boston because he knew he would never get traded there not because he wants to go back..in essence making his list 2 teams less

Minny does sounds like the best option, for both sides. I think the Wild are in a prime position to make a big push, considering the ager of their star players, Kessel would be a great offensive addition. Maybe Kessel for 2 firsts and a good prospect? Minny will be good for the next couple years so those firsts won't be very high, and I'm sure they can afford to part with a good prospect. It'll be a chunk of the future, but their time is now, Leafs can help take back any salaries that are giving them issues, like the backstrom/dubnyk situation.

None of those teams have the cap space for Kessel, but I did not look at Minnesota.

Not sure why you would be surprise at Mtl being on the list, they had a pretty good team in the last few seasons. But they won't give Galchenyuk for Kessel.

But considering the list and how those teams can't afford Kessel, I'd say he doesn't want to leave at all.

Still think he will be going to Montreal. Goaltending and defense is set up nicely for a long time. Now it's time to work on the offense.

What better way to boost the offense then to add on of the nhls most offensive players in the past 5 years?

Minnesota is an intriguing option to consider - and Vanek has not turned out to be the answer the Wild thought he would be for them.

Yup, unless Phil expands his list of teams to say 29, yeah he ain't getting traded any time soon.

Not on the list, but I think Columbus would be intriguing. Pretty damn decent team riddled with injuries last year. Bound to be much better this coming year, and I would think Phil would help jump that team up the standings.

Oh yeah...and David would be there to protect him again.

Wouldn't you rather have Montreal just sign Williams instead? With his CAREsi just being astronomical.

Williams would be cheaper for sure, but don't know if he would take a two years deal.

I agree with you. Base don needs, Mtl is the team that makes sense the most.

2 things that makes the trade more difficult to do, is:

1-Cap space
2-Rivalry

1-Mtl has no cap space but Toronto can take a lot of salary in the deal. If they really are in a rebuild mode (which i doubt considering Babcock's signing), they have advantage to take more salary back to get better pieces to ambrass there rebuild.

2-IMO, rivalry will not be the same if indeed Toronto is in a rebuild mode and Mtl in a contending one. If anything, Toronto will wants to finish at the bototm of the standings for 3-4 years to get the better picks.

I don't know if it will happen but i think it makes more sense than people think.

Kessel for McCarron (2013 Mtl 1st pick), Mtl 2015 1st, PA Parenteau and Jarred Tinordi (2010 Mtl 1st pick)

I'd say:

no.1 possible destination is Minnesota and no.2 is Mtl.

From a MTl POV, i think Bergevin could propose this package:

2015 1st
Scherbak
Tinordi
PAP
Emelin

It would be a tough trade for Minny to make for numerous reasons imo. I'd love to see Phil back and he would bring an element to the team that they lost when Gaborik left. But the Wild has traded so many of it's picks, that I don't see how they could come up with a package that would entice the Leafs? Would their #1 which is 20th be enough along with even say Dumba or Spurgeon if you're asking the Leafs to take back bad salaries such as Vanek's or Backstrom's or both? The Wild don't possess a lot of later round picks, and their prospect pool is poor, so unless Fletcher see's the writing on the wall and want's to make a final charge at the Cup with no thought to the future, I'd have a hard time believing he would swing this trade.
