That or a Kevin Hayes. Odd that he would still need to think about it IMO.

Yeah - considering he said Buffalo is the perfect fit for him, I can see that happening!

Why not just say it? It's not going to matter either way, Buffalo picks him #2.

if anyone is gonna pull a Lindros, it would be the first overall pick.

But I digress. I posted this news about 2 hours ago on Pachla's blog.

giving the team that drafts him an ultimatum? Play me in the nhl (whether I should be or not) or I go back to the college and maybe even hold out for FA? I doubt thats the case... but it sure as hell better be tugging at Murray and Comps minds

I would rather play in college than in the AHL as well. Especially if i was one of the best prospects to come through in a decade...

Would he even be able to play in the AHL or would he have to go play Major Juniors? From what I read he said he wouldn't go play Major Junior and would rather just stay in school. He also said that the Sabres organization assured him he would be in the NHL all year.

“If I’m signing, it’s not to leave school and go play major junior,” Eichel said Wednesday. “If I sign, it’s to play in the NHL the whole year. That’s the only way I’ll sign. And Buffalo has already explained to me that that would be the case.

Makes sense to me... I don't understand what everyone is getting their panties in a bunch over...

I completely agree. Everyone is making it sound like he has huge demands. College is obviously really important to him and if he signs a ELC he can't go back. Why is it selfish saying "hey if I can't play in the NHL this year, I want to go back to College." Buffalo isn't going to lose his rights if he doesn't sign right away.

If anyone SHOULD pull a Lindros it's the first overall pick. If it was me, I'd take one look at Edmonton and run far, far away. That's a great place to ruin your career before it starts.

I think he's maybe a bit torn about leaving school. He probably wants some assurance that if he leaves a situation he's happy in, it's not going to land him in the minors a few weeks later. I don't think that's unreasonable.

NCAA just needs to get rid of their rules about student athletes making money so this is no longer an issue

He probably should have said that instead of making it sound like he would hold out for specific conditions for signing the contract...

I'm sure he will clarify in the next day or 2 since everyone is making such a big deal about it

That's not really how it sounded at all though if you think about it. He actually probably shouldn't have said anything about it at all because in the super boring NHL that's considered a bit of a scandalous statement, but there's really nothing to it. He's just a kid who wants to be sure he's leaving school for a good reason.
