The success rates for drafted players are much better and more likely the relevant figures to be looking at as pretty much no one makes the NHL undrafted.
I think any logical person would say Crosby and Malkin are at least as good as Toews and Kane when healthy, but unfortunately durability is a major reason CHI has been better than PIT this decade. |

Not surprised to see Sid and Geno going toe to toe with those two. They are still a better duo, just haven't had much of a support team. Remember Sid playing with Dupuis and Steve Sullivan as a top line against the Flyers
What a mess |

Threw this in the last blog before this one came up... but yikes... Holtby wants 8+ million deal from arbitration... that'll cripple Washington's excess cap huh? He won't get that much... but reading 6.5-7 isn't out of the realm of possibilities. |

I could be wrong, but I think that Matt Read was 25 when he left college. |

"Simply put, Ray Shero is not nearly as good as Stan Bowman."
First, injuries are DRASTICALLY different between these two teams during this time period, especially for key players.
Second, Stan Bowman is benefiting from the players drafted / developed / traded for by former Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon.

Very true. But Stan Bowman recognized that the team would need to replenish some years and Shero just doubled down on veterans and short term moves so there is certainly a philosophical difference in roster construction. |

Yeah but Joe Morrow turned into Brendan Morrow who was a key contributed to our top 9 during our 2013 cup run. |

Just read the same blog. I almost spit out my drink when i saw that. He & his agent are stupid for even asking that price. Holtby has finally had 1 decent season and wants paid Lundquist money! What a jerk!! |

Speaking of Pierre, does anyone else wonder what the Pens roster would currently look like if Maguire took the GM job ?

No. I'm not a masochist who spends his time contemplating the darkest timeline. |

Being an NHL regular means having 200+ games or 2 1/2 seasons. Those rates are probably lower for the older guys because they haven't played that many yet

Hey... I think its asking way too much, but I HOPE he gets it. He had better than a decent season, he had a GOOD season last year, I'll admit it. Arguably a top 5 goalie last year on a God awful defensive team, could almost call it a great season. And of course, he had it on the most important year for a new deal, the final year of the contract.
I really don't consider it a jerk move, unless Washington offered him 4.5-5.5 mil and he said no. If they threw 3-4 mil at him, then hes in the right. |
