If Buff's agent convinces Chevy to use Gio as a comparable, you have bigger issues in store in WPG. |

Sure there is a comparison to be made but there are differences as well. Gio is the captain, an excellent defender but can also be injury prone. Buff is tougher, can dictate a game by himself (either good or bad) and takes dumb penalties at times. Gio is also a couple years older making the term even riskier for them.
Both are leaders on their teams and Buff will likely end up with a similar deal.
If I'm Chevy I give Buff the term he wants but the value will drop off toward the end. It will cost them more dollars now but with the cap hit higher than the actual salary for the last couple years he could be moved to a southern team struggling with cash flow and help them get to the cap floor with the AAV.
And who doesn't want to move to Phoenix or Florida when they are ready to retire anyway. |

this
Buff is more of a wideman ...very offensive but once the puck enters your zone his brain turns to mush |

No questioning Buff's skill package, however he is a disaster in his own zone, and very undisciplined. Bigger issue in my opinion, is his past lack of committment to conditioning.
I wouldn't want to give a long term contract to him, knowing that in any given season, he could come to camp 30 lbs overweight. Too risky !

I'd have no problem if the jets matched the Gio deal for Big Buff. Good or bad he is a big part of the team. I do see the issue in the near term with the Jets and ELC coming up for renewal. That being said, I'd hate to see the jets lose Dustin, he's a good dude to have around. |

how is Winnipeg not on the same upswing as the Flames? both teams are heading in the right direction, it's anyone's guess who gets there first |

If you think Buff signs for any less than those numbers you're dreaming. He will easily command those dollars as a free agent. The only question will be term. If Chevy doesn't like these options then he must trade him while he can get high value. |

I think Buf signs for a similar cap hit but I can see a slightly shorter term. Thats all we heard when the 8million number was being tossed around for Gio, trade him while he has value. I don't see that scenario and more due to the fact Buff's personality, play and what he means to the team are tough to replace... for all the prospects he could bring, you still need a proven NHL'er in order to move up in the standings... ask the Oilers. |
