Still don't know where Virt fits if he makes the team but I'd really like to see where he's at compared to NHL caliber players. |

Canucks GM Jim Benning said he’s prepared to cut bait with a veteran player if a younger player earns a spot on the team. |

Agreed.
Burrows mentors Sutter who mentors the rookies. Ideally we could have signed Elias to mentor Burrows though. |

I found this intriguing, too, especially since he only got one question. I was kind of amused that Prust rode shotgun for him.
After all the hype over his performance in Penticton, you're back at the bottom of the totem pole, rookie! |

If there is one thing we know about Benning, is that where there is smoke (Miller, Bartkowski,Virtanen, Sutter) there is almost always fire.
I think it is pretty clear they have made a spot available for Virtanen. I wonder if WD will be able to get the players to be happy rotating through the press box or if it will mean a player is moved.
Most interesting quote from there IMO is that Vey as aware that he was gifted a great opportunity last season and that it might have affected the team chemistry.
Like his honestly and looking forward to seeing if he did enough to get stronger in the offseason. |

Yeah, if I had to bet at this point is say it's a lock JV's getting 9 games and gun to my head I say he makes the team. |

Logically I don't see a spot without there being an injury for him in the regular 12 and generally the beginning of season is a tough time to trade a forward as most teams have too many and are trying to sneak guys through waivers or are able to pick guys up for nothing through waivers.
I think to make room for him, you will essentially need to give a forward away. |

They can theoretically keep him for his nine games right up until the World Juniors, those nine games don't have to be in a row, it's just cumulative. Then send him to play for Team Canada.
Not sure that's best for his development, just saying it's possible. |

True. They could even do what the Rangers did with Duclair. |

Canucks have 4 RW now (Burrows, Vrbata, Hansen, Dorsett). If Virtanen makes the team then I see Benning cutting ties with Hansen. |

Good chance there will be a few injuries before the first 20 reg season games are done. |

Hansen?? Vrbata is out at the TDL as it is if the Nux are in deep. we need Hansen I'd say to help balance the lines... he's a solid 3/4 liner.. |

That's why I don't see anyone being moved at this point. everyone knows there are going to be injuries either in camp or in the first 10-20 games... can't lose depth by making trades too early |

Hansen is a really good bottom six forward, I'd like to see others go before him. (Higgins) Put Hansen on the left side until the TDL and then call up Gaunce. |

Or move Burrows back to LW, Virtanen also played LW in junior. I'd rather get rid of Higgins than Hansen. |

what doesn't get mentioned enough (imo) is that horvat actually benefited from being injured out of camp last season.
that allowed him to get a few conditioning games in the ahl. that was a nice little bridge into the nhl, however short it was.
too bad jv can't break a finger nail and be eligible for a conditioning stint in the A. |
